Hundreds of dengue fever cases, Dak Nong strengthens prevention and control of infectious diseases

On July 29, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee announced that, according to statistics from the beginning of the year until now, the whole province has recorded 493 cases of dengue fever (DF). The number of infections was recorded in 8/8 districts and Gia Nghia City; there were no deaths. Compared to the same period in 2022, the number of dengue fever infections increased by 36 cases.

Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee further informed that according to the World Health Organization, in 2023 and 2024, the El Nino phenomenon may increase the transmission of dengue fever and other arboviruses (viruses transmitted by arthropods and insects) such as zika, chikungunya, and Japanese encephalitis. Climate change also promotes mosquito breeding and increases mosquito-borne infectious diseases.

Therefore, to strengthen the prevention and control of mosquito-borne diseases due to the El Nino phenomenon, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee directed the People's Committees of districts and Gia Nghia City to more strongly carry out mosquito larvae and larva extermination activities in the area in August 2023. Maintain this activity once a week in high-risk areas; twice a week in areas with high mosquito, larva and larva indexes and once a month in the remaining areas.

The Dak Nong Provincial Department of Health is assigned to closely monitor and thoroughly handle local infectious disease outbreaks. Ensure that 100% of outbreaks are detected and promptly handled according to the Ministry of Health 's instructions.

In addition, the Dak Nong Provincial Department of Health is assigned to direct medical examination and treatment facilities to organize well the admission and treatment of patients, minimize deaths; ensure adequate medicine, equipment, and medical supplies to serve the examination and treatment work. Advise on organizing interdisciplinary inspection teams to inspect and supervise the implementation at units and localities in the work of preventing and controlling infectious diseases.
