The online video giant YouTube has disabled monetization on the Screen Culture and KH Studio channels after an investigation by Deadline revealed the scale and sophistication of AI-generated videos on the two platforms.
Specifically, Deadline analyzed how Screen Culture created trailers that closely mimicked the official promotional materials for The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Superman , but added AI-generated imagery to "tease" intriguing details that didn't actually exist, in order to attract a large fan base.
Meanwhile, KH Studio has been copying and creating bizarre versions inspired by popular movies and series. Notable examples include a James Bond film starring Henry Cavill and Margot Robbie, and a Squid Game version starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Upon further investigation, Deadline was surprised to discover that instead of protecting the copyrights of these videos, several Hollywood studios, including Warner Bros. Discovery and Sony, had secretly requested YouTube to ensure that advertising revenue from these AI-rich videos would flow to them.
This is a serious violation of YouTube's monetization policy. The platform stipulates that if a creator borrows existing material, they must "significantly alter it to make it their own." Furthermore, the policy requires uploaded videos not to be "duplicate or repetitive" and not to be created with the "sole purpose of attracting views."
According to Deadline , in just the last two years, Screen Culture's viewership (1.4 billion) and subscriber count (1.4 million) have more than doubled, generating millions of dollars in advertising revenue.
