Online video giant YouTube has demonetized its Screen Culture and KH Studio channels after a Deadline investigation revealed the scale and sophistication of AI-generated videos on the two channels.
Specifically, Deadline analyzed how Screen Culture created trailers that closely mimicked the official promotional materials for the two films The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Superman , but added AI images to "tease" unrealistically attractive details to attract a large number of fans.
Meanwhile, KH Studio copies and creates strange versions inspired by famous movies and series. Notable among these are a James Bond movie starring Henry Cavill and Margot Robbie, and next to the Squid Game version starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Upon further investigation, Deadline was surprised to discover that instead of copyright protection for these videos, several Hollywood studios, including Warner Bros. Discovery and Sony, secretly asked YouTube to ensure that advertising revenue from these AI-rich videos would flow to them.
This is actually a serious violation of YouTube's monetization policy, which states that if you borrow existing material, you need to "substantially change it to make it your own." It also requires that uploads must not be "duplicate or repetitive" and must not be created for the "sole purpose of attracting views."
According to Deadline , in just the past two years, Screen Culture's views (1.4 billion) and subscribers (1.4 million) have more than doubled, bringing in millions of dollars in advertising revenue.
