Blockage point on inter-regional arteries
It took us about 2 hours to travel from Tuy Loan area (Hoa Vang commune) to the center of Dong Giang commune along Highway 14G. The driver, although familiar with the road, still drove carefully. Because the infrastructure of the entire route is not yet connected, there are sections where the car can run smoothly, and other sections where it is bumpy. And because the road width is small, only reaching the scale of a class IV road with 2 lanes and a cross-section of 7.5m, even some sections are only 5m, so a large truck can "occupy" half of the lane.
The degradation of National Highway 14G - the vital traffic route connecting the center of Da Nang city with the western area of the city adjacent to Ho Chi Minh road - was previously seen by the Quang Nam provincial government as a "bottleneck" in inter-regional socio-economic development.
Mr. Do Huu Tung, Chairman of Song Kon Commune People's Committee said: "We always expect National Highway 14G to be upgraded. At that time, the road from Doc Kien to Prao area (now Dong Giang Commune) will be much more convenient for trading goods."
One day, I followed the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Giang Coor Le commune to visit some garden-forest economic models in the commune. Here, the economic models of households, household groups, garden economy, farm economy... have been deployed since Resolution 35/2021/NQ-HDND of the People's Council of Quang Nam province (old). There are cases of people escaping poverty, such as Mr. BNuong Ngang (A Duong residential group) with his efforts to raise spotted deer, grow purple Morinda officinalis...
According to Mr. Coor Le, the entire commune has a poverty rate of 31.3%, equivalent to 797 households and is estimated to decrease to 24.7% (reduced by 167 households) by the end of 2025. Developing garden-forest economic models is one of the immediate directions of Dong Giang commune to move towards sustainable poverty reduction. That is the present, but the future is the story of... traffic infrastructure.
The leader of Dong Giang commune shared: “In the mountainous area, many products that people grow and make need buyers and consumption sources. In the long run, if we want to escape poverty sustainably, the city also needs to upgrade its transportation routes. Then trade and commerce will be stronger. If the roads are too far and difficult to travel, it will be difficult to find a market…”
Expect new roads
Last August, at the 2nd Session (Special Session) of the 10th term, 2021 - 2026, the City People's Council passed a Resolution on the zoning plan for the construction of a tourist area along National Highway 14G in the western ecological zone, scale 1/2,000, area of about 339 hectares. There will be a resort combined with high-quality services, an expanded area and a new planning area northeast of National Highway 14G; a community eco-tourism area combined with experiences, outdoor activities...
In particular, National Highway 14G will be upgraded to a cross-section of 42.5m to synchronize the infrastructure. In the expectation of people along the route, it would be ideal to have a tourist corridor connecting existing destinations, from Hoa Phu Thanh Tourist Area, Nui Than Tai Hot Spring Park, Ngam Doi Eco-tourism Area, Toom Sara Tourist Area (Hoa Vang Commune)... to Quyet Thang Farm Tea Hill (Song Vang Commune), Bho Hoong Community Tourism Village (Song Kon Commune), Dho Rong Community Tourism Village (Dong Giang Commune)...
In addition to National Highway 14G, another route that needs to be upgraded is National Highway 14D, which connects the delta with the Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc International Border Gate pair. Called the “road of suffering” by many drivers in recent years, this route is waiting to be upgraded with a total investment of more than VND4,500 billion in the period 2025 - 2027.
Mr. Le Tan Thanh Tung, Deputy General Director of VITRACO Tourism, Transport and Services Company, said: “The previous traffic infrastructure of Da Nang and Quang Nam needs to be implemented synchronously after the merger. For example, Da Nang needs to speed up the upgrading of National Highway 14D to the Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc International Border Gate pair because this is the route that can connect traffic from Tam Ky, Da Nang through Attapeu and Champasak provinces of Laos, down to Thailand - areas with a high concentration of international tourists”.
Each road opened and upgraded is not only a simple traffic route but also a connecting corridor for Da Nang city to develop synchronously and sustainably from sea to mountain.
