Effectiveness of the veteran movement to do good business

Leaving the military to work on the economic front, many veterans have promoted the tradition and qualities of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers”, persistently overcoming difficulties to excel in production and business activities. When the economy is stable, they continue to lend a helping hand to their comrades, share with the poor, and spread comradely affection and the spirit of mutual love to the community.

Returning to normal life, veteran Tran Nhat Ninh (Lien Chieu district) still maintains his steadfast spirit and loyalty. Not only is he good at business, he is also a support for hundreds of disadvantaged young people, comrades and the poor.

Mr. Ninh worked at the Hoa Vang District Military Command since 1978, then moved to work in irrigation in the district. In 1991, he opened the Ninh Auto Garage, marking a turning point in his career. Seven years later, he established the Lien Chieu Auto Cooperative with 50 members. Under his leadership, the cooperative operated effectively, with an annual revenue of 10-12 billion VND, creating jobs for dozens of workers, including many children of war veterans.

When the economy was stable, he became active in charity activities. For over 30 years, he has maintained auto repair training, providing free accommodation and meals for students, many of whom are children and grandchildren of war veterans. To date, he has trained more than 700 young people for free, many of whom have become skilled workers, have stable jobs, and earn more than 10 million VND/month.

In addition, he spends more than 1 billion VND each year on charity, from giving gifts, distributing rice, donating household items to people in mountainous areas of the Central provinces, to supporting disadvantaged families during holidays and Tet. His charity trips roll silently, carrying compassion and the spirit of "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves". With his effective contributions, veteran Tran Nhat Ninh has been recognized many times by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association and the City People's Committee.

For veteran Le Cong Vinh (Hai Chau district), the journey from soldier to civilian life is not only an effort to develop the economy but also years of living in harmony, sharing with comrades and the less fortunate. In 2002, he retired and established Tu Vinh Joint Stock Company, operating in the field of transportation and import-export. With dynamism and courage, he has managed the company to grow, creating jobs for dozens of workers, including many children of former comrades. When the economy stabilized, in 2013, he did charity as a way to show gratitude for life.

Every year, he spends nearly 1 billion VND to organize charity activities, give gifts, and build houses for his comrades and the poor in the Central provinces. During the Covid-19 period, he supported nearly 1.2 billion VND to buy necessities, food, and medicine to support people and frontline forces.

According to the City Veterans Business Association, there are currently 120 production establishments, businesses, and cooperatives owned by veterans in the area. When the economy stabilizes, many veterans continue to help their comrades, share with the poor, and spread comradely affection and mutual love to the community. In 2024, the association will support 200 million VND to help comrades build and repair houses; donate more than 700 million VND to support Yen Bai province to overcome the consequences of storm Yagi; organize charity activities in mountainous areas of Quang Nam and Quang Tri provinces with a total cost of more than 3.5 billion VND.

Mr. Tran Xuan Vinh, Chairman of the City Veterans Entrepreneurs Association, said that in the coming time, the association will focus on building a team of veteran entrepreneurs with strong political will, dynamism, daring to think and act, linking economic development with comradeship and social responsibility. In addition to maintaining effective production models, the association promotes connections and mutual support in business; encourages members to share experiences, and supports young members in starting businesses. In particular, it focuses on expanding charitable activities such as supporting new construction, house repairs, free vocational training for children of veterans, giving gifts and livelihoods to the poor. This is also a way for veterans to make practical contributions to the sustainable development of the city.
