Rector of Thuyloi University appointed Honorary Professor in Korea

The event is not only an academic recognition of the contributions of Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, but also demonstrates the depth of the cooperative relationship between the two universities, in the context of the internationalization of technicaleducation being increasingly promoted.

At the ceremony, Keimyung University President, Professor Synn Ilhi, personally presented the appointment decision and expressed his appreciation for the academic and cooperative contributions of Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet.

Professor Synn Ilhi shared that from the first meetings 3 years ago, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet has shown an international vision and a deep spirit of cooperation. We are honored to appoint Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet as Honorary Professor and expect that he will continue to be a strong bridge between the two schools.

With over 100 years of history and over 70 years of becoming a university, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet is the first Vietnamese and the 22nd Honorary Professor appointed by Keimyung University, this is a special milestone in the cooperative relationship between the two sides.

Professor Synn Ilhi, President of Keimyung University, presented the decision to appoint Honorary Professor to Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, President of Thuyloi University.

Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet is a leading expert in the field of marine engineering and coastal disaster risk management, and a pioneer in Vietnam's international cooperation activities. He is currently the Rector of Thuyloi University - a multidisciplinary public university with a high academic standing in Vietnam and the region.

With more than 100 international publications, along with many awards from countries such as Japan, France, England and specialized organizations such as the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE), Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet has contributed to promoting many international cooperation programs for training engineers and masters at Thuyloi University.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet shared that the title of Honorary Professor is not only a great honor for the individual, but also a responsibility to continue developing the relationship between the two schools, while contributing to the friendship in the field of education between Korea and Vietnam.

Immediately after the appointment ceremony, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet gave a lecture on the topic "Numerical Models for Coastal Disaster Prevention: Case Studies in Vietnam".

The lecture presents some typical research results in the field of erosion, flooding and coastal topography change in Vietnam. The main contents include: Simulation of erosion and coastal dynamics: One-line model, FVCOM, XBeach, Delft3D; analysis of coastal topography data using satellite images, UAVs, fixed cameras; application of artificial intelligence to forecast coastline changes; typical studies in Cua Dai (Quang Nam), Phu Thuan (Hue), Nha Trang and Binh Thuan , which are heavily affected by storms, high tides and human activities.

The lecture was highly appreciated for its close connection with practice, rich scientific content and clear demonstration of the role of data science in responding to climate change and natural disaster risks, global issues of many countries.
