Forming new value chains for tourism

As the number of tourists to Da Nang increases, expanding the exploitation of tourism potential around the core areas of Da Nang city center and Hoi An ancient town will diversify eco-tourism and experience products, thereby forming a new value chain, contributing to reducing the load on the inner city.

Expanding core areas to diversify products

According to Da Nang City Statistics, in the first 10 months of 2025, the total number of visitors to accommodation establishments is estimated at 15.4 million, an increase of 20.3% over the same period in 2024. Of which, international visitors are estimated at 6.3 million, an increase of 25.9%. In particular, travel activities and tourism support services maintain a positive recovery trend, especially international visitors on tours. This shows that traditional tourist destinations in the inner city are becoming overloaded and need to consider expanding tours and routes in suburban areas to find new tourism products to exploit new tourist markets.

Mr. Le Quoc Viet, Chairman of the Quang Destination Club ( Da Nang City Tourism Association), said that the city currently has two core tourism areas, which are the center of Da Nang city with the brand name "A dynamic city worth living", and Hoi An is an ancient town in the village, a green heritage area. With different cultural identities, these two core tourism areas also have different target customers. However, these two areas are currently overloaded with visitors, especially in Hoi An ancient town during peak season. Therefore, the city needs to expand the exploitation of tourism potential around the core areas of Da Nang city center and Hoi An ancient town, thereby developing and creating new products to diversify the source of visitors.

After the merger, Da Nang expanded its area, so the space for tourism development was also expanded. Within a 20km radius, the core area of ​​the city center can expand tourism exploitation in the old Hoa Vang district and the old Hoa Bac commune (now Hai Van ward) to diversify tourism products and reduce the load for the inner city area, especially opening routes at the foot of Hai Van and Ba Na passes. For Hoi An ancient town, it can be expanded to Duy Vinh, Duy Xuyen, and Nam Hoi An areas. Especially eco-tourism of the countryside, in which priority is given to the route along Co Co river, the waterway tourism route Hoi An - Tra Nhieu, Dong Khuong - My Son.

In addition, new tourism products are developed such as: Heritage journey extending to Tay Giang; tours to explore Champa culture in Hoi An ancient town, Tra Kieu, My Son, Dong Duong Buddhist Institute and tours of Central Vietnamese villages such as: Tam Thanh mural village - Phu Ninh lake - Loc Yen ancient village, Dai Binh village; source tours such as: Ky Anh tunnels - Heroic Vietnamese Mother monument - Nuoc Oa relic - Hon Tau relic; "healing" and health care tours such as: Tay Vien hot spring, herbs; biodiversity tours such as Cu Lao Cham, Say river Dam, Nong Son elephant conservation area...

Maximizing inter-regional advantages

As the tourism space expands, tourism units have more opportunities to exploit inter-regional advantages and develop new tourism products. Typically, FVG Travel Group Joint Stock Company invests in riverside tourism and waterway tourism in Nam Hoi An City Tourist Urban Area. In particular, Nam Hoi An marina serves the river experience route from Hoi An ancient town to Bay Mau coconut forest, Vinpearl Nam Hoi An and riverside service and entertainment clusters. In addition, the unit also builds a "3 destinations - 1 journey" tour model between Hoi An ancient town - My Son relic - Dong Giang Heaven Gate eco-tourism area and inter-regional waterway tourism route along Thu Bon river.

Meanwhile, the land at the upper reaches of Cu De River in the old Hoa Bac commune has developed community tourism activities with the establishment of Hoa Bac Ecological Agriculture and Community Tourism Cooperative, Ta Lang - Gian Bi Ecological Agriculture and Community Tourism Cooperative...

In particular, Hoa Chau Ecological Agricultural Community Tourism Cooperative has deployed sustainable tourism products in the Phong Nam Cultural Tourism Village. With the attention and support from the government and other units, local people here have become local guides to bring tourists to experience the unique values ​​of village culture, the culture of the Co Tu ethnic group and the beauty of the mountains and forests.

In the new phase of Da Nang tourism development orientation, Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the city will focus on expanding two key spaces:

Firstly, it is a high-quality, high-end tourism, resort and entertainment space associated with green standards, including coastal areas, both sides of the Han River; along Ba Na - Suoi Mo road and the western mountainous area; Son Tra peninsula; Cu Lao Cham, Son Cha island, Hai Van; along Co Co river and potential areas south of the city.

The second is the cultural - historical tourism space associated with preserving and promoting the values ​​of cultural heritage and historical traditions including Hoi An, My Son; tourism space of traditional craft villages along the Thu Bon River; cultural - spiritual tourism center in the Ngu Hanh Son mountain area, Linh Ung Pagoda; museum system and historical relics, community tourism in the west of the city.

It can be seen that in recent years, community tourism in Da Nang has developed quite strongly. On holidays, Tet, and weekends, the number of tourists from all over the country flocking to these tourist destinations is quite large, creating a fresh look in the city's tourism life and promising to open up new and potential directions for Da Nang tourism. The core strengths of Da Nang city center are modern tourism infrastructure, beautiful beaches, MICE tourism infrastructure, cuisine... Meanwhile, Hoi An ancient town is cultural heritage, eco-tourism, craft villages, historical values. Therefore, expanding the core area space needs to rely on the strengths of each region, forming a new value chain to create a breakthrough competitive advantage.
