Robert Lewandowski won the confrontation with coach Michal Probierz, who was forced to resign after the 1-2 loss to Finland.

Lewandowski announced his withdrawal from the Polish national team last week due to a disagreement with Probierz, who stripped him of the captaincy and gave it to Zielinski.

The defeat to Finland put Poland's qualification for the 2026 World Cup in jeopardy. The result led to Probierz's immediate resignation and Lewandowski's return to the spotlight.

Lewandowski once expressed his willingness to return to the national team if Probierz is no longer coaching.

Previously, in addition to the captain's armband, Probierz caused controversy when he criticized Lewandowski, claiming that he limited his appearances with Poland to prioritize Barcelona .

“I have come to the conclusion that, in the current circumstances, the best decision for Poland is for me to resign. Taking on this position is a professional dream and the greatest honor of my life,” Probierz said.

Probierz takes office in October 2023. “I will always be watching and cheering you on,” he added.

The 52-year-old coach also denied information that he asked President Kulesza to act as an intermediary to convince Lewandowski to return.

Initially, when Lewandowski – who scored 85 goals in 158 appearances for Poland – announced his withdrawal because of Probierz, he received a lot of criticism from famous former players such as Lato and Kowalczyk.

Only then did people learn some details about the conflict between Lewandowski and Probierz.

The 36-year-old striker complained that Probierz announced he was stripped of the captaincy in a very short conversation, while he was putting his child to sleep, just before the match against Finland, without giving him a chance to respond.

Currently, Lewandowski is waiting for Mr. Kulesza's intervention to return to the Polish team, with the important match against the Netherlands on September 4 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
