Ecotourism support for Khuoi Ky Stone Village
On October 12, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Management Board of UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark (CVDCC) worked with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on a plan to support ecotourism in Khuoi Ky Stone Village, Dam Thuy Commune (Trung Khanh). Attending the event was Ms. Choi Jeyun (Chue Day-Un), Deputy Country Director of KOICA Vietnam Office.
At the meeting, the Management Board of UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark informed and introduced the unique landscape values, distinctive indigenous culture, human resources for tourism development of the Khuoi Ky Stone Village heritage site; the implementation of sustainable and participatory tourism development activities associated with the UNESCO Global Geopark, organized training on sustainable tourism development orientation and community benefit sharing, established the Khuoi Ky Tourism Activities Monitoring Board, and piloted waste treatment at source...
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Choi Jeyun (Chue Day-Un), Deputy Country Director of KOICA Vietnam Office acknowledged and highly appreciated the contents shared by the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark Management Board, thereby helping KOICA have more information and understanding of the current situation and existing difficulties in tourism development in Khuoi Ky Stone Village, thereby serving as a basis for the next preparation steps.
The plan to support ecotourism in Khuoi Ky Stone Village, Dam Thuy Commune (Trung Khanh) is part of the Project "Supporting Green Circular Economy through improving agricultural value chains in the Northern region of Vietnam" (in Cao Bang and Bac Kan provinces), with a budget of 1 million USD (equivalent to about 24.4 billion VND), expected to be implemented from 2024 - 2029.
The locality is recommended to select activities in order of priority to promote the capital of 1 million USD allocated for this component, to build and develop a model of ecological community tourism village associated with agriculture in the province. This is an important project, contributing to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, income increase, and improvement of life for local farmers.
