Former Miss Grand International 2024 - Indian beauty Rachel Gupta officially spoke out to denounce the pageant organization for abusive and harassing behavior, right before the time when beauty Christine Juliane Opiaza from the Philippines was crowned her successor in the official coronation ceremony on the afternoon of June 3.
Serious allegations from former Miss Grand International
At a press conference in India, Rachel Gupta confirmed that winning Miss Grand International was initially a dream come true but 7 months later it became a "nightmare". She endured difficulties and pressure from the organization and finally decided to give up the title because of "respect for myself, respect for women and integrity".

According to Rachel Gupta, the Miss Grand International organization did not fulfill its contractual commitments. She was not paid after the first month, was not provided with basic food while in Bangkok and was only allowed to travel to one country, the Czech Republic, for 7 months, instead of more than 20 countries as promised. More seriously, she accused of constant mental abuse by the organizers, especially Mr. Nawat and Ms. Teresa, with derogatory comments about her appearance and body.
"They would send representatives to tell me I needed to lose weight here and there, even encourage me to have plastic surgery," Rachel said. She also said she had to live in a house an hour's drive from the city center, with no food, no pots and pans to cook with, and had to pay all her own living expenses.
After Rachel announced her decision to relinquish her crown, the Miss Grand International organization launched a smear campaign on social media, posting false information about her age, background, and even dragging her family into the incident. "Within 24 hours, they showed their true colors and treated me in public the same way they treated me in private," she said.
Rachel Gupta prayed that the new beauty queen would not experience the same thing. She also left a strong message to women around the world about standing up against abuse and disrespect.
Philippines crowned amid controversy
On the same day, in the official coronation ceremony broadcast live, Christine Juliane Opiaza from the Philippines was crowned Miss Grand International 2024. This is the Philippines' first historic victory in this competition.

Sharing when receiving the crown, Christine emotionally said: "I know there will be challenges on the road ahead. But I have my family and the Miss Grand International organization to overcome everything." She also mentioned an interesting story when she was a contestant, when Mr. Nawat asked: "Why is the Philippines so late?" (referring to winning the crown - PV) and she asked the same question back.
The new Miss Grand International affirmed: "I was given the challenge and am ready to accept Miss Grand International 2024".
