From 7am, at Khuong Dinh Secondary School (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi ), preparations to welcome students were ready.
As every year, the youth volunteer force is an active component in supporting candidates at the exam sites.
In the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi has nearly 103,000 candidates registering to take the 10th grade entrance exam at non-specialized public high schools.
Previously, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training assigned 79,740 grade 10 enrollment quotas to public high schools, most public schools increased their grade 10 enrollment quotas compared to the 2024-2025 school year.
Nguyen Thuy Trang, from Lang Ha Secondary School, was the first candidate to arrive at the exam site at Khuong Dinh Secondary School (Thanh Xuan). Trang felt nervous and anxious before the important exam.
"I feel very nervous. I have reviewed Math and Literature carefully, but I am not very confident with Foreign Languages," Trang shared, adding that this year the exam will follow a new regulation, without multiplying the coefficient of 3 subjects. Although it creates fairness, it is also very disadvantageous for students who are weak in Math and Literature.
Candidates wait outside the exam site of Khuong Dinh Secondary School before completing exam procedures.
Ms. Dang Thi Tam (Hoang Mai) and her husband took their child to the exam site of Khuong Ha Primary, Secondary and High School (Thanh Xuan) to complete the procedures for the 10th grade entrance exam. Ms. Tam shared: "When my child took the exam, I was more nervous and excited than my child. My child is also a good student, but this year the exam is under the new regulations. My family did not intend for my child to take the exam at a school with a higher score, but only gave him a school within his ability so that he would not be pressured and could easily get a ticket to a public school."
The candidate got the wrong exam location because in Khuong Dinh there are 3 exam locations: Khuong Dinh Secondary School; Khuong Ha Primary, Secondary, High School and Khuong Dinh High School, so many candidates got the wrong exam location. The volunteer took them to the correct exam location, Khuong Dinh High School, in time to complete the procedures.
At the exam site of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, candidates also arrived early to complete exam procedures.
Volunteer Dang Minh Quang, a student in grade 11 Chemistry 2 at AMS High School, said that this was the first time he had participated in supporting the exam as a volunteer team leader. “Today, although we didn’t start gathering until 9am, my friends and I all arrived very early, around 7am – 7:30am to prepare. My group is responsible for guiding candidates into the exam room, disseminating the regulations and being ready to answer any questions they may have. Because I have taken the exam in 2023 and know many candidates taking the exam this year, I also try to support them from choosing subjects to encouraging their spirit.”
As the team leader, Minh Quang is responsible for taking attendance, assigning tasks, and directly supporting the team members. His team consists of more than 13 people, divided into three rotations over the three exam days, coordinating with the local ward delegation to support candidates at the exam sites. “Although we only provide support in the outer rounds, we always try to create a light, friendly atmosphere to help candidates feel secure when entering the exam room.”
At Nguyen Truong To Secondary School, there were 838 candidates taking the exam and 123 staff serving the exam site.
All preparations are also actively implemented.
Teachers and support staff enthusiastically guide candidates to complete their exam registration procedures.
