Human resource training - Digital transformation: Leverage to improve the operation of Trung Son Hydropower Plant

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - In the context of the energy industry strongly transforming towards digitalization and sustainable development, Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited (TSHPCo) has been implementing many solutions to improve operational capacity, ensure safety, efficiency and modernity. The focus of this strategy is to train high-quality technical human resources and promote the application of digital transformation in plant management and operation.

TSHPCo cooperated with Viet Nhat Labor Safety Joint Stock Company to organize in-depth training on operation and incident handling skills in hydropower plants (May 2025).

Recognizing the key role of human in operating hydropower plants, TSHPCo has focused on training and improving the skills of its staff. Every year, the company organizes many specialized training courses on hydraulic control systems, PLC programming, HMI (S7-1200), as well as vocational testing programs for technical staff and operating positions.

Typically, recently, the company has cooperated with Vietnam - Japan Labor Safety Joint Stock Company, with the cooperation of experts from Hanoi University of Science and Technology to organize a specialized training course on operation and incident handling skills at the hydropower plant. The specialized training course has helped the operating team master professional knowledge and incident handling skills. Emergency drills such as power outages, equipment explosions, control system failures, etc. are organized periodically, helping to improve the reflexes, coordination skills and initiative of departments when facing incidents.

Deputy Director of TSHPCo, Mr. Pham Van Cuong shared: "The testing or training work requires students to have a solid grasp of theory and requires precise practice and flexible application of professional knowledge. Through the annual skill surveys at TSHPCo, 100% of direct workers have demonstrated technical expertise, industrial style and labor discipline. This is a prerequisite to ensure stable and safe factory operation, and to successfully complete annual production and business tasks."

In parallel with human resource training, TSHPCo has promoted the application of digital transformation in factory management and operation. The company has deployed the technical management software system PMIS and IMIS 2.0, helping to fully update information on the quantity of equipment, operating parameters, materials, safety, as well as manage the entire life cycle of the project from preparation, implementation to completion of investment. In addition, TSHPCo also applies digital transformation in reservoir operation through the integration of monitoring data, hydrological forecasts, images from cameras and digital maps, serving the work of water regulation, ensuring dam safety, especially during the rainy season.

TSHPCo has also deployed digital solutions in bidding, electronic project document management and QR-CODE application in equipment management. These advances not only help simplify administrative procedures but also create a solid foundation for the company to effectively manage key projects, especially the Trung Son Hydropower Plant expansion project in the coming time.

With careful preparation and proactiveness in operation, maintenance and water regulation, Trung Son Hydropower Plant has been affirming its important role in ensuring stable electricity supply for the national system, especially in the dry season of 2025. Important economic and technical indicators such as availability factor, self-consumption electricity rate, outage rate due to incidents and maintenance outage rates all met the set plan. Electricity production activities were maintained stably, safely and effectively, contributing positively to the task of ensuring electricity supply.

TSHPCo representative said that the company will continue to invest in “digital humans” and smart systems, contributing to building a sustainable, green and climate-resilient electricity industry. The company aims to become a digital enterprise, a pioneer in applying modern technology, improving production and business efficiency and ensuring absolute safety in electricity production activities.
