When the authorities and people arrived, the house of Mrs. Bui Thi Men (Ca Cat hamlet, Vinh Loi commune, Tan Hung district) had burned down.
Coming to Vinh Loi commune, Tan Hung district , Long An province, asking about Mrs. Bui Thi Men's house (born in 1966, residing in Ca Cat hamlet), almost everyone knows about her family's difficult circumstances.
Although living in the countryside, Mrs. Men did not have any land to cultivate. She struggled all her life to make a living, and in her old age, she was still penniless, with difficulties constantly following her.
Before, Mrs. Men lived in a temporary house built on the bank of a canal. It was called a house but it was actually a hut. During the dry season, she could still stay there temporarily, but during the rainy season, it leaked on all sides, so she had to cover a corner with nylon to use as a place to sleep overnight.
Suffering from many illnesses such as heart disease, degenerative lumbar spine disease, chronic stomach pain, etc., she still works for hire every day. In her free time, she cuts water hyacinth, dries it, and sells it to earn a few tens of thousands of dong. That amount of money is not enough for food, medicine, but she still tries.
She has 3 children, 2 daughters are married, both are poor, can not help. Her son works far away, only comes back once every few years, and her husband passed away many years ago.
Life was already difficult when on the evening of February 7, 2025, while taking care of her sick grandchild, a fire broke out at home, burning down the entire thatched house and all the belongings she had saved for more than ten years. All of her personal documents, medical records, poor household books , etc. were also burned.
Ms. Bui Thi Men received support to overcome difficulties after her house burned down.
Chairman of Vinh Loi Commune People's Committee - Nguyen Van Tam said that Mrs. Men is a poor household in the commune. Her family only has a thatched house that was recently burned down. The rainy season is coming, the local government is coordinating to mobilize to build a temporary house for her, but this is a remote area, people's lives are still difficult so they cannot contribute much. Hopefully, Mrs. Men's situation will be known by many people, and they will join hands to help her overcome this difficult period.
