"Settling down and making a living" from warm homes
Since the beginning of 2025, with the attention and direction of the Standing Committee, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, the City People's Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city have coordinated to deploy and implement the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households and policy beneficiaries.
Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses not only supports the construction of houses for the poor and those in difficult circumstances, but is also one of the important solutions to ensure social security, creating conditions for people to stabilize their lives and escape poverty. With the spirit of "Leaving no one behind", in recent times, Tan An City has taken drastic actions to help people have stable housing.
Having a Great Unity house has been the long-standing dream of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong Binh (Binh Tam commune). As a single father, he works for money every day to send his children to school. The house has been damaged for a long time but he has no money to repair or rebuild it. “My children and I are very happy to receive support to build a house! Having a stable place to live, I can go to work with peace of mind to earn money to send my children to school,” said Mr. Binh.
More than a month ago, the family of Ms. Hoan Thi Vi (Phu Nhon Quarter, Ward 5) had a solid house through the Program to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses. The house is a joy for the whole family when the rainy season comes. The old house was built many years ago, now degraded but her family does not have the conditions to build a new one. "Life is difficult and I am old, so I did not dare to dream of a new house. Now that the dream has come true, I am very happy!" - Ms. Vi confided.
For Mrs. Bui Thi Gia, a near-poor household in Ward 6, there is no greater joy than having a new house after living almost her entire life. Her Great Solidarity House was put into use at the end of April 2025, with a small area of only nearly 37 square meters , but it is a priceless gift for this woman in her twilight years.
Tan An City has completed the Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the city to monitor and direct the entire implementation process. Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tan An City - Nguyen Quoc Cuong informed that in just a short time, with the spirit of urgency and determination from the Steering Committee together with local Party committees and authorities, and the support of individuals and units, Tan An City completed the Program for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses according to the set plan. During the implementation process, the city organized many meetings to remove difficulties and provide specific instructions to relevant localities and units; at the same time, surveyed and learned about the circumstances of households to have timely solutions.
The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is of special importance, not only contributing to improving people's immediate living conditions but also creating a solid foundation for the long-term development of each household.
In recent times, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels of the city has closely coordinated with member organizations to assign specific tasks to mobilize the participation of the entire political system. From there, it has contributed to spreading the movement deeply and widely; promoting the spirit of great solidarity, joining hands to care for the disadvantaged to have a new, warm and affectionate home.

Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is a program with profound humanitarian meaning.
In the last months of 2024, the Central Government issued a policy on the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide. This is a decision with deep humanitarian significance, demonstrating the deep concern of the Party and State for people's lives, especially households facing housing difficulties. The program not only supports the construction of solid houses but also contributes to stabilizing life, creating motivation for people to rise up and build their homeland more and more prosperous. This policy quickly received positive responses from localities across the country.
After receiving the policy from the Central and the province, Tan An City is highly determined to implement the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. This program is considered by the city as a task and work of special importance, demonstrating responsibility and the spirit of "mutual love", contributing to bringing warm homes of love to the poor and disadvantaged, so that no one is left behind.
Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan An City - Vo Hong Thao said that to realize the goal of the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, Tan An City has implemented many synchronous solutions. In addition to the support capital, the city mobilized organizations, businesses and the community to join hands in implementation. In addition, localities actively participated in reviewing and making a list of households in need of support; at the same time, mobilizing local forces to help people in the process of building and repairing houses.
With great determination, Tan An City has carried out the work of eliminating temporary houses in a synchronous manner, with the participation of all levels, sectors and the whole society. Plans and programs have been implemented promptly and effectively, contributing to improving the quality of life of the people. However, this work still has many difficulties that need to be resolved, especially the issue of land and increasing construction costs.
According to Mr. Vo Hong Thao, right after the district level activities end, the newly-established commune level also needs to continue to maintain this meaningful work with flexible, synchronous solutions suitable to the actual situation to ensure the progress and effectiveness of the Program.
That is to continue to raise public awareness, promote the proactive role of localities in reviewing, supporting and connecting socialized resources as top priorities. At the same time, the city promotes the implementation of social housing to meet the housing needs of households without land or not qualified to build new houses. In addition, inspection and supervision work is also carried out regularly to ensure that support policies are implemented publicly, transparently and effectively,.../.
By the end of April 2025, Tan An City had completed supporting the construction and repair of houses for 56 households in the area. The total cost of the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the city was nearly 4 billion VND. Of which, 12 poor and near-poor households were supported with a total cost of 880 million VND from the provincial budget. In addition, the city also supported the construction and repair of houses for 25 households in difficult circumstances, not classified as poor or near-poor households, with a total cost of up to 1.72 billion VND from the "For the Poor" Fund and socialized sources. |
