"Rice jar of military-civilian love" extends the journey of knowledge

For over 10 years, the handfuls of rice filled with love from the officers and soldiers of Infantry Regiment 994 have helped the journey of knowledge for poor children in the area where the unit is stationed to be longer and less arduous.

Every day, each officer and soldier at the 994th Infantry Regiment voluntarily contributes a portion of their food ration to the "Military-Civilian Love Rice Jar".

• A GRAND HOLD OF RICE WITH LOVE

In addition to the headquarters located at Group 22, Lien Nghia town (Duc Trong district), the training ground of the 994th Infantry Regiment is located in Dang Sa Ron village, Ninh Gia commune. This is a locality where ethnic minorities from the Central Highlands make up the majority. Many people have economic difficulties, so there are many cases of children of school age having to drop out of school to work for a living. Inheriting the idea from the "Love Rice Jar" and "Resistance Rice Jar" movements that Uncle Ho called for during the resistance war against the French, in 2014, the Party Committee and Command of the 994th Infantry Regiment built and implemented the "Military-Civilian Love Rice Jar" model to help poor children have more opportunities to study. Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Tuan Anh - Political Commissar of Infantry Regiment 994 said: Every day, each officer and soldier of Infantry Regiment 994 voluntarily deducts a portion of rice from their food ration to contribute to the "Military-Civilian Love Rice Jar". At the end of the month, the unit will summarize the amount of rice; in addition to the amount of rice that needs to be donated, the remaining amount will be converted into money for cash support, then organized to donate to disadvantaged students that the Regiment is helping at Ninh Gia Primary School (Duc Trong District) and Tam Bo Secondary School (Di Linh District).

"Not simply a model, the "Rice Jar of Love for the Army and the People" is also a place that contains many feelings of soldiers towards the people in general and especially children in difficult circumstances in particular. Therefore, over the past 10 years, every day, the love between the army and the people through the "rice jar" is fuller. The handfuls of rice contributed to the "Rice Jar of Love for the Army and the People" are a lot of affection from the soldiers. Through this activity, the 994th Infantry Regiment alsoeducates all officers and soldiers to cherish and appreciate the labor, sweat, and efforts of themselves, their families and the people; it is also an act of showing mutual love, solidarity, and close ties with the people, further enhancing the qualities and image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new era", the Political Commissar of the 994th Infantry Regiment affirmed.

• HELPING CHILDREN WITH DIFFICULTIES GO TO SCHOOL

The 994th Infantry Regiment is a unit under the Lam Dong Provincial Military Command, performing combat readiness training tasks and for subjects such as: Training reserve forces, regular militia and new soldiers and ensuring service for a number of other tasks assigned by the Provincial Military Command. In addition to performing the unit's professional tasks, in recent years, the 994th Infantry Regiment has also been the leading unit in the entire provincial armed forces in terms of production increase.

Along with the model of "Rice jar of love between soldiers and people", Infantry Regiment 994 also combines with the unit's production increase fund to have more resources to support disadvantaged students. Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Tuan Anh added that currently, in addition to the regular methods as in previous years, the unit has also innovated by encouraging the spirit of volunteerism, especially among the staff and students who contribute more money each month to increase the support fund. This contribution is clearly recorded, always ensuring publicity and transparency. Thanks to that, the fund of Infantry Regiment 994 is increasingly abundant, more and more students with difficult circumstances are helped to go to school.

Currently, Infantry Regiment 994 is sponsoring and supporting the following children: Lo Ya Bao Thy, class 5a3; Ka My Tran, class 4a5 (Ninh Gia Primary School, Duc Trong District); Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, class 6a1; Ka An Thy, class 6a4 (Tam Bo Secondary School, Di Linh District). Each child has different difficult circumstances but they all have one thing in common: they are at risk of having to drop out of school. Infantry Regiment 994 is providing support with a support amount of 1.5 million VND/person/quarter. Thanks to the timely and appropriate support of Infantry Regiment 994, the journey of knowledge for poor ethnic minority students in the area where the unit is stationed has become less precarious and difficult.

According to the assessment of the leaders of the schools where the above students are studying, the support of the 994th Infantry Regiment not only helps them continue on their journey of knowledge but also nurtures in the children's souls love in life and dreams of a bright tomorrow.

With the intention of providing the best support for disadvantaged children to go to school, Infantry Regiment 994 also synchronously implements many other solutions to support and help students in disadvantaged areas in the long term. Accordingly, in addition to regularly sponsoring disadvantaged students, at the end of the school year, Infantry Regiment 994 also awards scholarships to encourage poor students to overcome difficulties and supports rice for students in difficult circumstances.

On the occasion of summarizing 10 years of implementing Directive 05-CT/TW of the Politburo on "Promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle" in the provincial armed forces, Colonel Nguyen Van Son - Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command assessed the model of "Rice jar of military - people love" as a typical model in implementing Directive 05 that needs to be replicated. In addition, this model of Infantry Regiment 994 was also recognized and highly appreciated by the Command of Military Region 7, as a creative and practical way to join hands to support the people in eliminating hunger, reducing poverty, developing the economy - society, contributing to strengthening the great national unity bloc, building a solid "people's heart position" in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
