Completion of project to add more than 1,000MW to the North before the hot season

(Chinhphu.vn) - The Power Transmission Project Management Board (NPTPMB) has just completed the installation of shunt capacitors at 20/21 transformer stations in the Northern region under the Project "Additional installation of shunt capacitors on the Northern power grid in 2025", 5 days ahead of schedule compared to the direction of EVN and EVNNPT.

The capacitor bank at the 220kV Duong Kinh transformer station has completed all installation work and is waiting to be synchronized with the distribution grid to be ready for energization before April 30, 2025.

The project was assigned by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) as the investor, and the Power Transmission Project Management Board (NPTPMB) represents the investor to directly manage and implement the project.

This is a level II, group B energy project, implemented at 4 500kV substations in 3 provinces/cities which are major load centers including: 500kV Hiep Hoa substation (Bac Giang), Pho Noi (Hung Yen), Dong Anh, Tay Ha Noi (Hanoi) and 17 220kV substations including: 220kV Soc Son substation, Bac Ninh 2, Bac Ninh 3, Long Bien, Dong Hoa, Son Tay, Duong Kinh, Kim Dong, Yen My, Pho Cao, Hai Duong 2, Ba Che, Thanh Nghi, Vinh Tuong, Vinh Yen, Phu Tho, Ninh Binh.

Mr. Vo Luong Nhan, Deputy Director of NPTPMB said: The implementation of this project faced many challenges in investment preparation when having to carry out many procedures, a large amount of work, and international bidding.

During the project implementation, NPTPMB and contractors encountered many challenges regarding power outage conditions for construction, along with construction under conditions where equipment in the substation was energized, requiring strict safety requirements.

According to the plan, the project needs to be completed before April 30, 2025, which is a very urgent schedule. However, under the strong and close direction of EVN, EVNNPT, the coordination and maximum support of Power Transmission Company 1 and related units, NPTPMB completed early and put into operation all items on April 25, 2025, ahead of the schedule required by EVN and EVNNPT.

The completion of the project will help increase the supply of more than 1,000MW to the North before this year's hot season. At the same time, it will maximize its efficiency, increase its transmission capacity to support the Northern power system after the energization of the 500kV Quang Trach - Pho Noi line and be able to transmit high capacity on the 500kV line at 4,800-5,000MW, improving the transmission efficiency of the 500kV line from the Central region to the North.

The early completion of the project will help increase the stability of power supply, reduce power and energy losses in the system, and improve EVN's production and business efficiency.

In particular, this is also one of the results of EVNNPT in contributing to ensuring electricity supply for the North from this year's hot season under the direction of the Prime Minister and EVN.

The completion of the project affirms the position of NPTPMB in implementing difficult and urgent projects. This is a practical action of NPTPMB to welcome the 4th EVNNPT Party Congress, term 2025-2030.
