Nguyen Dynasty Royal Palace through never-before-seen photos

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí15/03/2024

(Dan Tri) - Many precious, never-before-published photos of the rituals and activities of the Nguyen Dynasty kings and mandarins in the early 20th century are being displayed at the exhibition "Royal rituals and festivals in Hue in the early 20th century".

These are photos captured by Vietnamese authors of that time such as Tang Vinh, Dang Chau... through lenses, recreating many extremely unique aspects of the daily life of the Nguyen Dynasty kings and mandarins through rituals, festivals and daily activities in the royal palace and on the streets.

After a while, these photos were stored in the archives of the Association for the Study of Ancient Capitals (AAVH) - the predecessor of the famous magazine specializing in research on Hue: "Friends of the Ancient Capital of Hue" (Bulletin des Amis du Vieux Hue) - with about 9,000 photos taken throughout Indochina, from 1885 to 1954. In the AAVH database, there are also more than 600 ancient books, 30,000 pages of valuable handwritten notes by famous authors, kings, mandarins, politicians...
Until now, AAVH has officially announced through the exhibition "Royal Rituals and Festivals in Hue in the Early 20th Century" at No. 1 Le Hong Phong (Hue City). The exhibition lasts until May 13, 2010.
We would like to introduce to our readers valuable photos taken at the Exhibition so that readers can see a world of "no one can go in or out" of the last feudal regime in Vietnam.
