The opera "Princess Anio" is based on the true love story between Princess Ngoc Hoa from Hoi An, Vietnam and merchant Araki Sotaro from Nagasaki, Japan about 400 years ago, at the beginning of Japan's Edo period.
The show was planned and produced by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and the "Princess Anio" Executive Board to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.
Performing the main roles in the Opera are talented young opera singers from Vietnam and Japan.
The general director of "Princess Anio" is conductor Honna Tetsuji, music composer Tran Manh Hung, director - scriptwriter and Japanese lyricist - OyamaDaisuke, Vietnamese lyricist - Ha Quang Minh.
By recreating a true historical story through an opera, the organizers hope that the work will become a symbol to promote the good relationship between Vietnam and Japan in the next 50 years, 100 years.
Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, along with Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, attended the first performance of the opera "Princess Anio" at the Hanoi Opera House on the evening of September 22.
The Honorary Advisors for the project are Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam Yamada Takio and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Japan Pham Quang Hieu. The project is also sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan, as well as the encouragement and support from local leaders of the two countries, along with the attention and support from units and organizations in the public, private and educational sectors of both countries.
"Princess Anio" will be performed at the Hanoi Opera House for three nights on September 22, 24 and 24. Then, on September 27, the work will come to the public in Hung Yen. In November 2023, the Japanese public premiere will be held at the Hitomi Memorial Hall of Showa Women's University, Tokyo.

The role of Sotaro is played by Kobori Yusuke, a tenor who won second prize at the 16th Tokyo Music Competition and first prize at the 88th Japan Music Competition. In the performance on September 23, the two artists playing this main role are Bui Thi Trang and Yamamoto Kohei.
