TechGirls, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational andCultural Affairs, is a summer exchange program for girls ages 15 to 17 who want to study and work in STEM fields. This year’s program will take place in July-August 2024 at Virginia Tech. 111 girls from 37 countries and territories, along with more than 13 U.S. students, will be selected to participate.

Students will attend a computer and interactive technology camp, then travel to Austin, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Detroit, Portland or Seattle for networking and career exploration. They will also experience host family life and social activities. At the end of their program in the US, students will participate in a local community project of their own design, funded by the US State Department.

Launched in 2012, TechGirls has awarded scholarships to 653 female students. The program initially focused on countries in the Middle East and North Africa, then expanded globally in 2022.
