“Semester in the Army” and meaningful experiences

“It’s morning! Get up and do some exercise, soldiers!”. A new day for the “young soldiers” participating in the 11th “Semester in the Army” program in 2023, coordinated by the Provincial Youth Union with the Provincial Military Command, the Engineering Officer School and the Provincial Youth Activity Center, began like that.

Mental training

With an atmosphere full of excitement and determination to complete the mission excellently, at the 11th "Military Semester" departure ceremony, 209 "young soldiers" gathered at the Engineering Officer School to participate in a course of study, experience and training in a military environment. After breakfast, the "young soldiers" lined up neatly and moved to the hall to learn about the traditions of the Vietnam People's Army, the armed forces of Military Region 7 and the provincial armed forces. While watching a documentary about the resistance war against the US to save the country, the children learned about the history of revolutionary struggle, the spirit of "determination to die for the Fatherland" of their fathers' generation; expressed pride in the tradition of patriotism and gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the peace , independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

With a high sense of discipline, the “young soldiers” are trained and instructed to strictly implement the military regulations, military management regulations and thoroughly understand the spirit of strictly following the rules when participating in military training, daily and weekly regimes. At night, at 11:45 p.m., while they are sleeping soundly, when they hear the alarm, they must immediately wake up, quickly adjust their uniforms and go down to the command yard… Those lessons help them practice their spirit and urgent manner when given orders.

Independent and mature

The first diary page when away from home, the handwriting with many thoughts and feelings of the "little soldiers" is the bewilderment, missing grandparents and parents: "Here, I always have friends, soldiers, coordinators beside me, accompanying me, fighting shoulder to shoulder. I am very confident", "Mom! I know how to fold my housework, dress neatly and even wash dishes!". Writing a diary is a very important content, children can open their hearts to themselves; express their feelings and emotions, so that they can listen and understand...

Within the framework of the program, the “young soldiers” have 7 days of experience in the military environment with many rich contents such as increasing production, learning about weapons, equipment, and soldier sports. In addition, they also learn social practice skills, behavioral skills, teamwork skills, study topics on “Useful habits”, family affection, write diaries, write handwritten letters to family, participate in social work, etc.

The experiences in the military environment with effort, enthusiasm, joy and many memories will contribute to improving the ability to adapt, independence and maturity in thinking and action of the children. In addition, the program also creates a healthy and useful playground to motivate and have appropriateeducational methods, helping the children to progress more and more.

The 11th "Military Semester" program in 2023 is organized by the Provincial Youth Union in coordination with the Provincial Military Command, the Engineering Officer School and the Provincial Youth Activity Center for students from 11 to 17 years old. The program is held during the summer vacation, helping students gain practical experience, arousing patriotism, national pride and educating lifestyle, equipping necessary life skills and social practice skills for teenagers.
