At the discussion session “Promoting climate innovation: cross-sectoral cooperation solutions”, which took place from November 20-21 within the framework of COP30 youth activities, Le Bao Nhi was invited to present the presentation “From the green heart of Vietnam reaching out to the world ”. This is the first time a Vietnamese child has contributed his voice to this international event.

According to the organizers, the young speakers were selected through speaking competitions held in many countries. Bao Nhi is the representative of Vietnam after the domestic selection round coordinated by 51Talk.
Her presentation focused on the current state of ocean waste, an issue that has been warned by many international organizations. From her experience participating in beach clean-ups, Bao Nhi gave familiar examples such as bottles, plastic caps and nylon bags appearing in many coastal areas, thereby showing the alarming level of pollution.
From real-life experiences, I proposed a series of small but practical actions such as planting trees around the house, reducing single-use plastic waste and reusing old items in daily life. Part of my presentation emphasized that every small change by each person can create a big change for the planet, a message that was well received by many young delegates.
In addition to her presentation, Bao Nhi brought a painting called “Marine Environment” which she made herself, using seashells collected during beach clean-ups. The image of her in a traditional ao dai, holding the painting and confidently talking about the environment made a strong impression on the audience.
The participation of an 11-year-old Vietnamese student in the COP30 youth forum is of great significance in promoting children’s voices in global environmental issues. This is an opportunity for Vietnamese children to express their views, showing the concern of the young generation about climate change and pressure on natural resources.

During the preparation for the event, Bao Nhi received support to perfect her speech and supplement her environmental knowledge from domestic experts, including representatives of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ Vietnam). Thanks to that, her speech combined children's perspectives with data and practical solutions.
In addition to the presentations, Vietnamese children and international delegates participated in a series of sideline activities such as cultural exchanges, tours of the Amazon rainforest and giving gifts to children from many countries. These activities helped to broaden children’s understanding of biodiversity, the impact of climate change and how indigenous communities protect the environment.
Experts at the forum said that the appearance of young speakers contributes to creating motivation for change from the future generation, while also encouraging adults to look back at the role of environmental education in the family and school.
