BDK.VN - On June 21, 2025, at the large hall of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Association for the Support of Poor Patients held a meeting to express gratitude to the association's staff at all levels for 22 years of volunteer activities. Attending were Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council Ho Thi Hoang Yen, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Be Muoi.

With guest delegates: Former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Vo Thanh Hao; former Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Phuoc; former Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, former Assistant to the President, Dong Khoi Citizen, former Head of the Liaison Committee of Ben Tre Compatriots in Ho Chi Minh City Le Tam Dung; Dr. Doan Hoang Hai - Permanent Deputy Head of the Liaison Committee of Ben Tre Compatriots in Ho Chi Minh City; Professor, Doctor, Doctor Vo Van Ha - Mercer University, USA, Honorary Dong Khoi Citizen.

Also attending the meeting were the current leaders, permanent members of the Association for the Support of Poor Patients and former leaders of the Association at the district and city levels in Ben Tre through the terms; representatives of the families of the deceased executive committee members; the heads of 125 Associations for the Support of Poor Patients in communes, wards, towns and the Buddhist Association in the province and a number of other delegates.

The meeting took place in the context of merging provinces, abolishing district level, and establishing a two-level government. Accordingly, the activities of the Provincial Association for Supporting Poor Patients will have a new form of operation.

Speaking at the gratitude meeting, Chairman of the Ben Tre Provincial Association for the Support of Poor Patients, Tran Cong Ngu, said: “After 4 congresses, up to now, nearly 22 years (11 years and 6 months), the Ben Tre Provincial Association for the Support of Poor Patients has a system of member associations including 9 district and city associations, 129 branches with over 2,000 members. The activities of the Association have developed more and more widely, mobilizing organizations and individuals to actively support, from students who skip breakfast, to retired officials who donate bonuses on the occasion of receiving Party badges and other awards; businesses, religious organizations, philanthropists at home and abroad; royalties from journalists and writers; the dedicated help of doctors at many hospitals in and outside the province. The most touching was Ms. Pham Thi Ni (Sau Hoa), a retired official who donated all her assets, including personal belongings, to support the Association to care for the poor, orphans and disabled people

It is known that over the past 22 years, the Ben Tre Province Association for Supporting Poor Patients has mobilized the support of millions of organizations and individuals at home and abroad, achieving the following results (as of June 2025): The Association has mobilized 1,300 heart surgeries; 36,192 cataract surgeries; provided medical examination and medicine to 780,000 poor patients without health insurance.

Provided 7,200 wheelchairs and rocking chairs for the disabled; provided 58,000 scholarships for poor orphans and disabled students; presented 1.2 million gifts to the poor and families with meritorious services; the charity kitchen provided 6 million meals; presented 80,000 health insurance cards to near-poor households; built and donated 100,000 water tanks and fresh water storage facilities.

The Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to individuals with "Outstanding and excellent achievements in implementing the "New Dong Khoi" emulation peak in 2024 - 2025".

Installed artificial limbs for nearly 5,000 people due to war, labor and illness; mobilized to build and donate 3,152 houses of gratitude and love. In addition, there are programs implemented according to the sponsor's request: building 1,555 rural bridges; helping thousands of coffins and burial objects for the poor when they pass away and other social security projects.

In addition, the Association has been a frontline force mobilizing over 23 billion VND in the Covid-19 prevention campaign in the province.

In 21 years and 6 months of operation, the Association has brought 1,500 billion VND to the poor, the disabled and orphans.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province awarded a certificate of merit to an individual with achievements in "Actively mobilizing support for resources to implement social security work in Ben Tre province in 2024 and 2025".

In his emotion, Chairman of the Association for the Support of Poor Patients of Ben Tre province, Tran Cong Ngu, expressed: “The activities of the Association over the past 22 years have left for the homeland of Ben Tre not only numbers but also arousing and spreading the humane and charitable heart, a long arm connecting the Party, the Government, the Front with the People, a garden of benevolent flowers blooming in the Ben Tre coconut forest. We respectfully acknowledge the contributions of organizations and individuals, domestic and foreign sponsors, the leadership of Party committees, authorities and the coordination of the fronts at all levels as well as the efforts and contributions of members and organizations of the Association for the Support of Poor Patients of Ben Tre province. We hope that the spirit of volunteerism and benevolence will forever bloom beautifully.”

Some delegates expressed their feelings at the meeting. On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 7 individuals with "Outstanding and excellent achievements in implementing the "New Dong Khoi" emulation peak in 2024 - 2025". The Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee awarded certificates of merit to 3 individuals with achievements in "Actively mobilizing support for resources to implement social security work in Ben Tre province in 2024 and 2025".

Speaking at the gratitude meeting of the Provincial Association for Supporting Poor Patients, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council Ho Thi Hoang Yen expressed her emotion and respect for the humane contributions of the staff, members and volunteers over the past 22 years. She emphasized that since its establishment, the Association has implemented many meaningful programs such as heart surgery, eye surgery, giving wheelchairs, scholarships, health insurance cards, free medical examinations, supporting millions of poor people, people with disabilities, and orphans with a total mobilized resource of over 1,500 billion VND.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council Ho Thi Hoang Yen acknowledged the silent but responsible contributions of the members - most of whom are retired officials and the elderly - and highly appreciated the companionship and support of philanthropists, organizations and businesses at home and abroad. Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ho Thi Hoang Yen affirmed: The Association has become a spiritual support for the disadvantaged, contributing significantly to the poverty reduction and sustainable development program of the province.

In addition, the Provincial Party Secretary also informed about the important transformation of the province when it officially operates a two-level government model from July 1, 2025 according to the Resolution of the National Assembly. She emphasized that the merger of administrative units is not only a requirement for organizational structure but also an opportunity to restructure the development space, promote regional connectivity, promote potential, and build a modern and effective governance model. The spirit of humanity, creativity and companionship for the community like that of the Association for the Protection of Poor Patients needs to continue to be spread, linked with the goal of building Vinh Long to develop sustainably in the new space.
