Talks between the Department of Industry and Trade of Lao Cai province (Vietnam) and the Department of Commerce of Yunnan province (China)

On the afternoon of June 20, at the Dien Tri International Exhibition Center, Kunming, Yunnan Province, the Department of Industry and Trade of Lao Cai Province (Vietnam) and the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province (China) held a meeting on economic and trade cooperation between the two provinces.

Attending the talks, on Lao Cai province's side, there were Mr. Hoang Chi Hien, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade; leaders of a number of specialized departments of the province's departments and branches.

On the Yunnan province side, there was Ms. Thon Man, Deputy Director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Commerce; leaders of a number of specialized departments and offices of the provincial departments and branches.

At the meeting, the two sides introduced the province's potential, strengths and cooperation opportunities, investment and development orientations to promote import-export and trade activities.

In recent years, Lao Cai province has focused on upgrading infrastructure, building logistics zones and smart border gates to enhance customs clearance capacity, reduce costs and improve the efficiency of border gate economic activities. Import and export value has witnessed strong growth, reaching nearly 700 million USD in 2006 and nearly 3.4 billion USD in 2024, striving to reach 5 billion USD in 2025. Notably, the number of tourists to Lao Cai province in 2024 will reach more than 8 million, of which Chinese tourists will reach over 500 thousand, accounting for nearly 8% of the total number of visitors.

The representative of Yunnan Province proposed that, according to the content of the second meeting of the research group on the model of building a Vietnam-China cross-border economic cooperation zone held in Guangxi in April 2025, the two sides need to complete their own research reports. Yunnan Province wishes to learn the opinions and plans of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lao Cai Province regarding the content of the research report on the model of building a cooperation zone. Currently, the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam have clearly identified the promotion of the construction of a cooperation zone according to the model of "Two countries - Two parks".

At the same time, we would like to learn about the proposal of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lao Cai province on promoting industrial park cooperation and enhancing cross-border industrial cooperation between the two sides.

At the end of the talks, the two sides agreed to actively promote trade promotion activities through increasing meetings, exchanges, and cooperation in economic and trade development; organizing business delegations to visit and learn from experiences; actively promoting the export of goods and agricultural products from Vietnam to Yunnan Province (China) and vice versa, importing products from Yunnan Province (China) into Vietnam through Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II; continuing to create conditions for businesses to trade, develop import-export relations, seek partners, expand production-business and investment markets...
