Online conference to review traffic order and safety work in the first quarter of 2024

On April 24, the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) held a national conference to review the work of ensuring traffic order and safety (TTATGT) in the first quarter and deploy directions and tasks for the second quarter of 2024. Comrade Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Transport, Permanent Vice Chairman of the NTSC chaired the conference. Attending at the provincial bridge were leaders of relevant departments, branches and sectors.

In the first quarter, with the drastic direction of the Government and the Prime Minister , and the active participation of ministries, branches and localities, the traffic safety situation was basically controlled. From December 15, 2023 to March 14, 2024, there were 6,550 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 2,723 people and injuring 5,246 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, there was an increase of 1,194 cases, a decrease of 484 deaths, and an increase of 1,847 injuries. There were 40 provinces and centrally run cities with a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2023, of which 11 localities had a decrease of over 30% in the number of deaths. However, there are still 22 localities with an increase in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2023, of which 10 provinces increased by over 20%... In the first quarter of 2024, the Traffic Police force inspected and handled more than 1 million cases of traffic safety violations on 3 routes: roads, railways and inland waterways, fined over 2,041 billion VND, revoked 206,468 driving licenses and professional certificates; temporarily detained 373,545 vehicles of all kinds...

Concluding the conference, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang requested that in the second quarter of 2024, ministries, branches and localities continue to resolutely implement the key tasks of the 2024 Traffic Safety Year associated with the theme "Rule of law to build a safe traffic culture"; continue to organize in-depth working sessions on outstanding issues in ensuring traffic safety, on that basis, advise, recommend and propose solutions suitable to the new situation. Direct the resolute and synchronous implementation of solutions to ensure traffic safety and prevent traffic congestion; increase the exploitation and use of data from vehicle tracking devices to inspect and handle violations. Continue to review and handle black spots, potential traffic accident spots, and handle inadequacies in traffic organization on the road system to improve safety conditions for people and vehicles participating in traffic. Strengthen patrols and controls to ensure traffic safety, especially during the holidays of April 30 and May 1, 2024. Promote propaganda, dissemination and education of traffic safety laws to raise awareness of traffic participants.
