Vietnam Association of the Elderly - 30 years of construction and development

On May 10, 1995, implementing the policy of the Central Party Secretariat and the Decision of the Prime Minister, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was established. The establishment of the Association inherited and promoted the tradition of the Association of Elderly People for National Salvation founded by President Ho Chi Minh, becoming a historical milestone in the process of building and developing the organization of the Association of the Elderly.

30 years of construction and development

The Vietnam Association of the Elderly, formerly the Association of the Elderly for National Salvation, played an important role in the history of building, defending the country and building socialism. After April 30, 1975, the country was completely unified, the Association of the Elderly for National Salvation was transformed into new forms such as: "Longevity Association"; "Old Age Joy Association", "Longevity Fund". On May 10, 1995, implementing the policy of the Central Party Secretariat and the Decision of the Prime Minister , the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was established.

After 30 years of establishment and development (May 10, 1995 - May 10, 2025), the Vietnam Association of the Elderly has continuously developed and matured. The Association's movements such as "Bright eyes for the elderly", "Elderly people participate in environmental protection, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas", joining hands to protect border and island security, prevent crime, "Action Month for the elderly in Vietnam" ... have achieved great results, contributing worthily to the cause of innovation, construction and development of the country.

In Binh Thuan , the Central Representative Office of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was established on October 28, 1995. In the early days of its establishment, the Association of the Elderly in Binh Thuan province only had the Association of the Elderly at the commune and provincial levels as the Representative Office of the Central Association. It was not until 2002 that the Provincial and District Representative Boards were established, and in September 2024, Binh Thuan province held the Congress to establish the Association of the Elderly at the provincial and district levels.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuc - President of the Provincial Elderly Association said: Looking back on the 30-year journey, with the efforts, intelligence, enthusiasm and dedication of generations of Association officials from the province to the grassroots, the Associations at all levels in the province have achieved quite comprehensive results in all areas of Association work, the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example" has been widely deployed. Notably: The Association organization from the province to the grassroots has been constantly consolidated and improved, currently the whole province has 121 grassroots Associations, 696 branches and 2,820 association groups. In addition, the work of protecting, caring for the elderly and promoting the role of the elderly has been increasingly paid attention to by Party committees at all levels, authorities, fronts, associations and unions at all levels in the province in terms of material, health and spirit for the elderly, the work of congratulating and celebrating longevity has been carried out promptly and thoughtfully by Party committees at all levels, authorities and Associations. On average, each year, the provincial Associations mobilize nearly 12 billion VND to provide free medical examination and treatment for more than 520,000 members and the poor and disadvantaged elderly. The program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" is regularly implemented, screening for eye diseases for nearly 15,000 elderly people, with nearly 6,000 elderly people receiving free surgery with nearly 26 billion VND. Along with that, the Associations at all levels are also interested in implementing the "Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam", in the past 5 years alone, more than 23 billion VND has been mobilized, supporting over 71,000 poor and disadvantaged elderly people to stabilize their lives...

At the same time, the role of the elderly in society is constantly promoted in all fields, members and the elderly are trusted by the Party committee, government, and the Fatherland Front and assigned many important responsibilities in the political system at the grassroots level. Up to now, the whole province has 34,235 elderly people who are Party members, 32,825 people are retired cadres, 19,130 elderly people directly participate in the work of the Party, government, the Front, mass organizations in villages, neighborhoods and self-management groups, security and order protection groups, and mediation groups in residential areas; 28,500 healthy elderly people continue to participate in production labor, of which 790 elderly people are farm owners, 2,042 elderly people are good at economics.

The work of protecting and caring for the elderly is increasingly receiving attention from Party committees and authorities at all levels.

Entering a new era with the whole country

To effectively carry out the above tasks, together with the National Elderly Association, the Binh Thuan Provincial Elderly Association will continue to promote propaganda work, creating consensus among cadres and members on the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, especially reforms of the domestic apparatus, making the Elderly Association truly a bridge between the people and the Party and the State. Continue to improve the quality and effectiveness of the Association's activities in the new period, making each level of the Association an important link in its role as a social organization representing the elderly. Actively participate in the fight against false and distorted arguments of hostile forces and political opportunists, contributing to preventing "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the organization; firmly protecting the Party's ideological foundation. In addition, proactively and creatively organize social activities, patriotic emulation movements with the tradition of "old age, high ambition", associated with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, exemplary "lifelong learning". Participate in the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, continue to replicate the model of Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs and effectively implement the "Month of Action for the Elderly in Vietnam"... At the same time, actively foster knowledge and skills to serve digital transformation, green transformation, implement the Project "Elderly people participate in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation". Meet the requirements of the tasks of the Association of the Elderly at the provincial, commune and ward levels according to the current policy of merging into provinces, abolishing districts and communes, contributing to the implementation of the country's development goals.
