- On May 22, in Hanoi , the National Institute of Nutrition held a workshop to introduce and summarize the nutrition improvement model in the National Target Program. The workshop was attended by experts, managers in the field of nutrition, and representatives of provinces and cities that have implemented the model.
Attending the conference at Lang Son bridge were leaders of the Department of Health, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, and the Department of Education and Training.
In the 2022-2024 period, the Ministry of Health has presided over and coordinated with ministries, branches and international organizations to effectively implement the National Nutrition Strategy for the 2021-2030 period. Many communication activities have been promoted, especially on nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life, prevention of malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. The Ministry of Health has coordinated with UNICEF, WHO, and the Institute of Nutrition to implement a micronutrient supplementation program and provide therapeutic foods for children with severe acute malnutrition in many provinces and disadvantaged areas. As a result, the rate of stunting in children under 16 years old in poor districts, especially disadvantaged communes in coastal and island areas will reach 25.42% (by the end of 2024), meeting the set target (below 34%).
In Lang Son, during the period of 2022-2024, the Department of Health has actively advised on the implementation of the National Nutrition Strategy under the direction of the Ministry of Health, developed and approved a provincial action plan, organized training for provincial and district nutrition officers, implemented propaganda activities, micronutrient supplementation campaigns and community-based care for malnourished children. By the end of 2024, Lang Son province had implemented the first 1,000 days of nutrition care model in 78/88 communes in region III, reaching 88.6%, exceeding the set target (by 2025 reaching 40%).
At the workshop, delegates listened to the introduction and report on the results and discussions on the implementation of the model in some localities... Delegates also discussed, shared experiences, and proposed solutions to replicate the model, aiming at the goal of sustainable development in nutrition in the coming period.
In the afternoon of the same day, the workshop continued with professional guidance on implementing the National Nutrition Strategy, micronutrient supplementation, and monitoring nutrition interventions integrated with the sustainable poverty reduction program.
