Record number of applications

Today (August 16), the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) conducted a virtual screening of university admission applications for 2025 nationwide. The nationwide virtual screening process took place 6 times and ended at 5:00 p.m. on August 20.

In addition to the general virtual filtering process of the Ministry of Education and Training , universities also formed two virtual filtering groups in the North and the South. The Northern virtual filtering group is chaired by Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Southern virtual filtering group is coordinated by Ho Chi Minh City National University.

On August 16, the units uploaded the database to the system and organized the selection process.

The first virtual filtering will take place from 7am on August 17, results will be returned the same day.

The following days, filter virtual 2 times a day until all virtual filters are used up.

At the decisive stage, training institutions will enter the admission scores (standard scores) and admission results into the system at 5:00 p.m. on August 20. At the same time, the units will review and prepare to announce the first round of admission results.

Thus, from the afternoon of August 20, universities can start announcing admission scores. According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the results of the first round of admission must be announced no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 22.

The general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training will process and determine the highest wish among the wishes for which the candidate is eligible to be admitted.

Candidates confirm online admission for the first round on the common system of the Ministry of Education and Training before 5:00 p.m. on August 30.

To ensure smooth virtual filtering and admission, the Ministry of Education and Training has organized technical training for schools across the country. Universities prepare facilities and human resources to participate in the nationwide virtual filtering with the general admission system as well as two separate virtual filtering groups.

Before "G hour", information about the increasing number of applications to schools received special attention.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the general admission system recorded more than 7.6 million registered wishes, accounting for more than 73% of the total number of candidates. On average, each candidate selected nearly 9 wishes.

Notably, this year the number of candidates registering for admission has increased by more than 115,000 compared to last year, partly thanks to more candidates from vocational colleges.

However, the main reason for the record increase in registration wishes is that there is no more early admission, all methods are implemented simultaneously in the first round.

Meanwhile, last year, early admission candidates only had to re-register their eligible admission wishes in the system if they did not want to register for other wishes. Therefore, this year, candidates tend to register for many wishes to increase their chances of admission, leading to an increase in the number of applications to schools.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry said it has received about 160,000 applications for admission, double that of 2024. However, the school predicts that the admission scores for most majors may decrease by 0.5-1 points, while some "hot" majors will remain stable.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade said that this year the number of candidates registering for admission to the school has increased sharply, with a total of more than 178,000. Of these, more than 13,300 are first-choice candidates.

Data from candidates applying for admission to the school also shows that more than 41,300 candidates registered for 10 or more wishes. Of which, the two majors with the highest number of candidates registering for wishes are logistics and supply chain management, and marketing.

The rise of the IELTS certificate will also change the admission score of the University of Economics and Law, Ho Chi Minh City National University.

Therefore, the forecast benchmark fluctuates slightly, not decreasing as much as previously predicted.

Hot majors such as international business, e-commerce, international economics, marketing, and economic law are often highly competitive and attract many candidates, so there will be slight fluctuations.

On the contrary, the entrance standards for new, less competitive majors are likely to decrease more, such as civil law (English), applied mathematics in economics, management and finance (English), financial technology (Co-op program), and management information systems (Co-op program).

Many innovations

The new score makes many schools quite "reserved" when announcing this year's predicted score because of the different admission process. Schools no longer have early admission systems, so in addition to direct admission, most candidates have to wait for results from the virtual filtering process.

The admission principles are stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training in Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT. The admission score is determined so that the number of students recruited for each major and training program is consistent with the announced quota, but not lower than the input threshold.

For a training program, major, or group of majors, all candidates are considered equally based on the admission score and equivalent converted admission score according to each admission method and admission combination, regardless of the priority order of registration wishes...

In case many candidates have the same score at the end of the list, the training institution can use the secondary criterion of preference order to select candidates with higher preference order.

The use of regional and subject priority points for admission must be consistent and consistent with the regulations on priority points specified in Article 7 of the Regulations issued with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT.

In 2025, high school graduation exam scores will decrease significantly, so this year's admission floor scores of many universities will decrease sharply. Many experts predict that the benchmark scores will also tend to decrease.

On the other hand, the conversion of scores is becoming complicated as each school has its own method, leading to candidates, parents and even schools being "dizzy" with the conversion formula.

With these innovations, the leader of a southern university said he was extremely careful when setting benchmark scores in virtual admission screening.

"The school anticipated difficulties in this year's admission season when there were too many special points, from no more early admission, reduced high school graduation exam scores, score conversion...", this person said.
