According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet paid an official visit to Vietnam on December 11 and 12.

Mr. Hun Manet visited Vietnam in August 2022 in his capacity as deputy commander-in-chief and army commander of the Royal Cambodian Army.

During his stay in Vietnam, Prime Minister Hun Manet is expected to meet with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will host an official welcoming ceremony for the Cambodian leader. The two Prime Ministers will have a private meeting, then hold talks and witness the signing of a number of cooperation documents.

The two leaders will also visit and talk with students of the Foreign Trade University and attend the Vietnam - Cambodia Trade and Investment Promotion Forum.

Speaking to the press before the visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea said that Prime Minister Hun Manet's visit to Vietnam is also his first visit to an ASEAN country.

Mr. Hun Manet took office on August 22, 2023, just over 100 days ago. During that short period, the Cambodian Prime Minister had four meetings with the Vietnamese Prime Minister, all abroad.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also met with President Vo Van Thuong in Beijing, China. Most recently, Ms. Khuon Sudary, President of the Cambodian National Assembly, also visited Hanoi for an official friendship visit to Vietnam.

"Prime Minister Hun Manet's visit to Vietnam can be likened to planting trees and taking care of flowers, requiring us to regularly fertilize and water them," said Mr. Sok Chenda Sophea.

Trade turnover between the two countries is expected to reach more than 10 billion USD in 2022, up from more than 5 billion USD in 2020.

"In just two years, it has doubled, one becomes two, that is a strong, wonderful growth rate," Mr. Sok Chenda Sophea told VNA.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Cambodia, economists currently use the concept of "+ 1", such as "Vietnam + 1", "Thailand + 1"... and this will be an opportunity for the two countries to further enhance cooperation opportunities, complementing each other for mutual benefit.

He explained that when some companies move production to Vietnam, this means that Vietnam will welcome and take on some jobs, while some other jobs can be promoted to move to Cambodia to complement each other.

"There are many activities in many fields that require production and assembly to be carried out in many different places. That is why I have great faith in the "Vietnam + 1" model. And for that to happen, we must have hard and soft infrastructure," added Mr. Sok Chenda Sophea.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang believes that Prime Minister Hun Manet's visit will contribute significantly to tightening and further strengthening the bilateral relationship, on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, effective cooperation, respect for each other's interests, bringing the Vietnam - Cambodia relationship to a new height./.
