For the Foreign Language exam, candidates choose one of the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean. Candidates can register to take the exam in a foreign language other than the language they are studying in secondary school.

This is a relatively difficult exam. Because Hanoi has 117 public high schools and enrolls about 72,000 students in grade 10. According to this target, about 55.7% of students have a place in public grade 10.
