The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just announced the results of an English survey of 50,278 teachers who participated in a 90-minute multiple-choice test. The survey includes listening, reading, and writing skills, designed and standardized with Cambridge Assessment English, ensuring objectivity, science, and high reliability, to assess English proficiency according to the European reference framework CEFR (from A1 to C2).
Of these, 22,284 are primary school teachers; 18,088 are secondary school teachers, and 8,229 are high school teachers. In terms of expertise, 4,721 teachers participating in the survey are teaching English; 45,557 teachers teach other subjects such as: Math, Literature, Biology, History, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, etc.
As a result, 35.09% of teachers participating in the survey had English proficiency level B1; 13.63% had English proficiency level B2; 3.69% had C1 proficiency level; 0.29% had C2 proficiency level; 11.35% had A2 proficiency level; 9.45% had A1 proficiency level. Other proficiency levels were 26.5%.
Thus, 52.75% of teachers participating in the survey (26,496 people) have English proficiency from B1 or higher (B1, B2, C1, C2) according to the European reference framework CEFR.

By level of education, of the 22,284 primary school teachers, 34.46% have English level B1; 13.43% have level B2; 9.95% have level A1; 11.85% have level A2. However, 28.23% of teachers have other qualifications. There are very few teachers with level C1 and C2.
Of the 18,088 secondary school teachers, 34.75% have English proficiency level B1; 14.24% have B2; More than 20% of teachers have A1 and A2 levels.

The survey results are important and necessary input data for the City and the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City to have a realistic and scientific view of the current situation. The collected data is the basis for developing the Project "Gradually bringing English to become the second language in schools" - the goal of improving the quality of education and international integration.
From this result, the Department of Education and Training will calculate, develop a plan and roadmap to train and support the improvement of foreign language skills for the team in a suitable, effective and feasible manner, meeting the requirements of educational innovation according to Conclusion 91-KL/TW.
This result is absolutely not used for any other purposes such as competition evaluation, salary review, discipline or other personal purposes.
