More than 3,000 students in Ho Chi Minh City take the exam to select the first excellent students after the merger.

On the morning of September 17, more than 3,300 students in grades 10, 11, and 12 in Ho Chi Minh City entered the exam to select the first excellent student team after the merger.

Accordingly, the exam to select the excellent high school student team for the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will take place in two mornings on September 17 and 18, 2025. Students will choose one of the following subjects: literature, history, geography, math, physics, chemistry, biology, information technology, English, French, Chinese, Japanese.

The total number of candidates taking the exam is 3,303 students in grades 10, 11, and 12 in region 1 (formerly Ho Chi Minh City), region 2 (formerly Binh Duong), and region 3 (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau ).

Of which, English had the largest number of candidates: 779 students, followed by Literature: 481 students. The subjects with the fewest candidates were French: 68 students, and Japanese: 79 students.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that students in grades 10, 11, and 12 will take the same exam, with exam sites located in 3 areas to facilitate candidates, specifically as follows:

Area 1: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (No. 235 Nguyen Van Cu, Cho Quan Ward), and Marie Curie High School (No. 159 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Xuan Hoa Ward).

Area 2: Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted (No. 593 Binh Duong Avenue, Thu Dau Mot Ward).

Area 3: Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (3/2 Street, Phuoc Thang Ward).

The content of the exam will be in the general education program, the teaching content of specialized subjects at high school level, and advanced programs. The time for each exam is 180 minutes. The second exam of foreign languages ​​includes a listening test; the computer science subject performs programming on a computer with the programming languages ​​C++, Pascal, and Python.

The subjects participating in the exam to select the Ho Chi Minh City excellent student team are students studying in grades 10, 11, and 12 in the 2025-2026 school year, with good or better academic and training results in the 2024-2025 school year.

In which, in region 1 (formerly Ho Chi Minh City) and region 3 (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau), specialized schools and schools with specialized classes send at least 50% of students of specialized classes to take the exam in the specialized subject they are studying; high schools and general schools with high school level send a maximum of 5 students to take the exam in each subject.

For region 2 (old Binh Duong ): students who have been selected through round 1 in February 2025 organized by the Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong province (old) will be able to take the exam.

Students who pass the team will be recognized as winning first prize in the city-level excellent student competition.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, this is an exam to select outstanding students from high schools to form a team to participate in the national exam for excellent students in the 2025-2026 school year.

Students selected for the preliminary team will participate in review and training according to the time frame and instructions of the department. After completing the training period, students will take the second round of the exam. Based on the results of the second round, the Department of Education and Training will select students from the preliminary team to join the official team of the city.

Grade 12 students in the official team will be recognized as winners of the city-level excellent student award for the 2025-2026 school year (first prize).
