Launched on May 9, 2025, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day, the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh and the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press, the contest is a profound gratitude, at the same time contributing to spreading the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh, honoring exemplary veterans in the "Exemplary Veterans" movement.
Of the 216 authors participating in the contest, 57 submitted between 2 and 8 works. Notably, Major Nguyen Van Tong, former Editor-in-Chief of Military Region 1 Newspaper, participated with 9 works. The youngest contestant was a student (19 years old) of the Academy of Journalism and Communication; the oldest was teacher Dang Thi Uoc (87 years old) in Hai Phong with an article about her student who was a war invalid.
Notably, more than 3/4 of the authors are officers and veterans, including 3 generals. Many works by officers currently working in the military and veterans write about their leaders and comrades with profound memories.
The contest also attracted the participation of many professional writers such as: Colonel, writer Nguyen Khac Nguyet; Colonel, journalist Nguyen Duy Tuong and Colonel, journalist Tran Nhung, former Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Veterans Newspaper; Colonel, journalist Le Phi Hung, former Head of the People's Army Newspaper Representative Board in Ho Chi Minh City; Colonel, journalist Vu Thi Hong Linh, Head of Radio News Department, Military Radio-Television Center...
The Jury worked through 2 independent rounds and decided to award 36 works, including: 1 A prize, 5 B prizes, 10 C prizes and 20 Encouragement prizes.
Dr. Tran Ba Dung, former Head of the Professional Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association and Deputy Head of the Jury, commented: "The contest is like a precious gold mine, exploiting many characters, leaving rich material for literature, art and journalism."
Not only honoring the authors and works, the contest also honors the people who made history, the examples of peacetime veterans who have contributed to building the homeland and the country, thereby helping the younger generation understand and live up to history, contributing with the whole nation to enter the era of growth.
The closing ceremony and award ceremony of the “Shining the August Revolution Spirit” journalism contest will take place at 7:30 p.m. on August 19 at the Vietnam-Soviet Union Friendship Cultural Palace (Hanoi). The event is not only a festival for writers but also contributes to spreading the revolutionary spirit, fostering pride and responsibility in each generation today.
