More than 61,000 billion VND invested in Soc Trang seaport system

According to the Plan, by 2030, the Tran De offshore port will receive general cargo ships, container ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons, and bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 160,000 tons, meeting the demand for cargo throughput from 24.6 million tons to 32.5 million tons.

On May 13, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Xuan Sang signed Decision No. 590/QD-BXD approving the Detailed Planning for the development of land and seaport areas of Soc Trang in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

Accordingly, Soc Trang seaport includes the following wharf areas: Ke Sach, Dai Ngai, Tran De and buoy wharves, anchorage areas, transshipment areas, storm shelters.

The plan sets a target that by 2030, goods passing through the Soc Trang seaport system will be from 30.7 million tons - 41.2 million tons (of which container goods will be from 0.97 million TEU - 1.36 million TEU); passengers will be from 522.1 thousand - 566.3 thousand.

Tran De seaport plays the role of a gateway port for the Mekong Delta region, promoting socio -economic development for the entire region.

Regarding infrastructure, there are a total of 6 ports including 16 to 18 wharves with a total length of 2,693 m to 3,493 m (not including other ports).

Vision to 2050, goods passing through the port with an average growth rate of about 5.5% - 6.1%/year; passengers with an average growth rate of about 1.1% - 1.25%/year. Regarding infrastructure, continue to develop new ports to meet the demand for goods passing through, including forming a gateway port for the Mekong Delta region.

According to the plan, by 2030, Tran De Wharf Area: wharves in Hau River downstream of Dai Ngai Bridge will handle 1 million tons - 1.1 million tons of goods, 522.1 thousand - 566.3 thousand passengers; Tran De offshore port will handle 24.6 million tons - 32.5 million tons of goods.

In terms of scale, the ports in the Hau River downstream of Dai Ngai Bridge have 2 ports including 4 wharves with a total length of 343 m; the offshore port of Tran De estuary has 1 port including 2 - 4 wharves with a total length of 800 m -1,600 m (not including the onshore transit wharf at Tran De estuary), specifically:

Port serving Tran De Industrial Park: 2 general cargo wharves, bulk cargo with a total length of 260 m, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 2,000 tons, barge size, watercraft with a capacity of up to 5,000 tons suitable for the clearance of river crossing works, meeting the need for goods passing from 1 million - 1.1 million tons.

Superdong Tran De Port - Soc Trang: 2 passenger wharves with a total length of 83 m, receiving high-speed ships with a capacity of up to 200 tons, sea ferries with a capacity of up to 500 tons, meeting the passenger demand from 522.1 thousand - 566.3 thousand passengers.

Tran De offshore port: 2-4 general cargo, container, and bulk cargo wharves with a total length of 800 m - 1,600 m, receiving general cargo, container ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons, bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 160,000 tons, meeting the demand for goods from 24.6 million tons - 32.5 million tons. Investing in onshore transit wharves at Tran De with a scale and investment process suitable to the scale of investment in Tran De offshore ports according to the plan to support port operations.

Dai Ngai Port Area: Port serving Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant, including 6 bulk and liquid cargo wharves with a total length of 630 m, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 10,000 tons fully loaded and 20,000 tons partially loaded, meeting the demand for goods from 3.2 million tons to 3.8 million tons.

Ke Sach port area: Including Cai Con general port with a scale of 2 general wharves and 1 specialized cement wharf with a total length of 740 m, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 20,000 tons, meeting the demand for goods from 1.6 million tons to 3.4 million tons; My Hung petroleum port has a liquid/gas wharf 180 m long, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 15,000 tons, meeting the demand for goods of 0.3 million tons.

Vision to 2050, continue to develop new ports to meet the demand for goods with an average growth rate of about 5.5% - 6.1%/year. Tran De offshore port has a planned scale of developing about 14 wharves to meet the growing demand for goods.

Regarding land and water surface use demand, the total land use demand according to the planning until 2030 is about 1,331 hectares (not including areas for developing industrial parks, logistics... associated with the port).

The total demand for water surface use according to the plan until 2030 is about 148,486 hectares (including other water areas within the management scope without maritime works).

The investment capital demand for the Soc Trang seaport system by 2030 is about 61,513 billion VND, including investment capital for public maritime infrastructure of about 19,607 billion VND and investment capital demand for ports of about 41,906 billion VND (including only ports providing cargo handling services).

Priority investment projects include:

Public maritime infrastructure: Investing in the construction of public infrastructure for offshore ports at Tran De estuary (channels, breakwaters, sea-crossing bridges) in sync with the scale and investment roadmap of ports, the investment roadmap depends on resources and needs; investing in infrastructure serving maritime safety such as: storm shelters, coastal information stations, maritime traffic monitoring and coordination systems (VTS); investing in the construction of public ports and facilities serving specialized state management tasks.

Seaport: Investing in a port serving Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant, calling for investment in ports in the offshore port area of ​​Tran De estuary.
