Specifically, rats damaged an area of 450 hectares, with a common damage rate of 5% - 10%; rice blast disease damaged an area of 99 hectares, with a common damage rate of 5% - 10%..., causing damage in many rice growing areas in Gio Linh, Cam Lo districts, Dong Ha city; on rice varieties such as HC95, Bac Thom 7, IR38. Leaf mosaic disease damaged newly planted cassava plants with an area of 295 hectares, with a common damage rate of 5% - 20%. In addition, fall armyworms damaged corn, root rot disease damaged peanuts... caused scattered damage in growing areas with an area of more than 130 hectares.

To proactively and effectively prevent pests and diseases on crops, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to direct specialized units, People's Committees of communes, wards and towns to coordinate with the Plant Cultivation and Plant Protection Station and the Agricultural Extension Station to strengthen field inspections and guide farmers on technical measures to care for and prevent pests and diseases on crops.

Specifically, on rice plants, strengthen the inspection of rice blast disease on all varieties, carefully inspect susceptible varieties such as HC95, Bac Thom7, BDR57, IR38, VN10..., on fields with dense sowing, unbalanced fertilization... to promptly spray pesticides when the disease first appears (disease rate is about 5%). Fields infected with rice blast disease after spraying pesticides, the disease stops developing and can be fertilized again.

In addition, maintain rat extermination by manual methods such as digging and catching, using semicircular traps combined with the use of new generation drugs; absolutely do not use electric shock to kill rats.

In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to the development of various types of planthoppers, leaf rollers, spider mites, bacterial leaf blight, brown leaf spot, etc. to have timely prevention measures. On corn, peanuts, and cassava, regularly check to promptly detect and handle pests such as fall armyworms that damage corn; wilt, root rot, etc. that damage peanuts; and mosaic disease on cassava.
