According to the assessment of the Department of Industry and Trade, in recent years, the digital transformation process in the commercial sector has been quite strong. E-commerce and online shopping activities have developed in many steps, bringing economic values ​​and benefits to businesses and consumers, contributing to the development of local socio-economic.

Accordingly, the Industry and Trade sector has focused on promoting activities to support enterprises, cooperatives, and business households in promoting and consuming products. Creating conditions to support enterprises in developing infrastructure and transaction solutions, electronic payments in commerce and public services. Focusing on applying traceability of goods and developing non-cash payment utilities on mobile platforms, e-wallets, QR Codes, and POS.

In particular, in the field of trade promotion, in recent times, the Industry and Trade sector has actively supported enterprises and cooperatives in the province to participate in domestic e-commerce platforms, creating conditions for enterprises and cooperatives to introduce products, promote their images and conduct transactions on the internet to effectively promote production and business capacity.

At the same time, coordinate with major e-commerce platforms in Vietnam (Lazada, Shopee...) to implement programs to consume goods in the domestic market through e-commerce channels. Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Huu Hung said: “In 2024, Quang Tri province's e-commerce index will rank 40th out of 58 provinces and cities ranked in developing e-commerce activities, becoming a new growth driver. Effectively exploited e-commerce platforms have helped businesses access new distribution methods in the digital age, improve competitiveness through cost reduction compared to traditional business methods, and have more opportunities to access new markets."

In particular, on the basis of identifying e-commerce as one of the pioneering fields of the digital economy, helping businesses improve their competitiveness, the Provincial People's Committee has also issued a Plan for e-commerce development in the province for the period 2021-2025.

This plan aims at the main goal of making e-commerce a popular activity used and applied in state management agencies and the majority of enterprises in the province; contributing to improving the efficiency of management and operation of state agencies; improving the competitiveness of enterprises and the province; promoting the industrialization and modernization process, in line with the process of international economic integration and the fourth industrial revolution.

On the other hand, on May 16, the Provincial People's Committee also directed the Department of Science and Technology and the Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion to organize training on artificial intelligence (AI) application for enterprises and cooperatives in the province to equip the business community in Quang Tri province with practical knowledge and breakthrough tools to increase sales, optimize marketing and successfully digitalize with AI.

Currently, Quang Tri province has over 800 digital technology enterprises, 100% of enterprises apply electronic invoices; about 800 thousand active personal payment accounts, the rate of people aged 15 and over having payment accounts is estimated at 80%. In 2024, the total retail sales and service revenue of the province will reach 34,463.49 billion VND, an increase of 12.09% over the previous year and reaching 101.36% of the plan.

In addition to the province's e-commerce platform, Quang Tri currently has nearly 4,000 products posted on the e-commerce platforms Voso and Postmart, with over 16,000 transactions made on these e-commerce platforms. In addition, hundreds of thousands of agricultural production households have been trained in digital skills; the rate of agricultural production households participating in e-commerce platforms is 55% (ranked 4th out of 19 provinces and cities in the region).

These are impressive figures, creating a premise for Quang Tri province to continue to synchronously implement solutions to effectively carry out digital transformation work in the commercial sector.
