Huong Lap Border Guard Station celebrates its 70th anniversary

Huong Lap Border Guard Station, formerly Armed Police Station No. 15, was established on June 1, 1955. Currently, the unit manages a 24.5 km long border section adjacent to three clusters of villages in Laos, in charge of two communes Huong Lap and Huong Viet with 13 villages and more than 1,700 households. Through many historical periods, the unit has always steadfastly remained at the front line of the Fatherland, upholding a sense of responsibility and excellently completing assigned tasks.

In recent years, the unit has achieved many achievements in performing its tasks. Notably, it has done a good job of propagating and disseminating the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws; and consolidating the great national unity bloc. Social security work has been promoted, including building more than 30 new "Border Shelters" houses, supporting seedlings and livelihoods for more than 40 poor households in the area.

During natural disasters and epidemics, especially the COVID-19 pandemic, the unit has mobilized over 3,000 officers and soldiers to coordinate in setting up quarantine checkpoints, providing emergency relief, and providing medical care for people. Along with that, it attaches importance to building a strong people's border defense posture; establishing twinned residential areas on both sides of the border; regularly coordinating with Lao units to deploy all aspects of work to ensure security and order in border areas, cultural and sports exchanges, etc.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, the People's Committee of Huong Hoa district, and the Provincial Border Guard Command presented certificates of merit to Huong Lap Border Guard Station and individuals of the unit with outstanding achievements in protecting national border security and sovereignty, contributing to maintaining security and order and social order in the border area.
