Meeting of the Scientific Council of the Project to Preserve and Restore the Center of Dien Bien Phu Citadel Group

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Vu A Bang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Project to Preserve and Restore the Center of the Dien Bien Phu Fortress Group, said: The Dien Bien Phu Battlefield Relic Complex with 45 component relics is a great advantage for the development of local historical tourism. Although it has a lot of potential, it has not been exploited adequately. Mr. Vu A Bang suggested that the Project's Scientific Council give directions to implement the goal of preserving and restoring the relic system worthy of its historical value, ensuring the requirements of history, culture, education and propaganda... thereby both protecting historical values ​​and creating conditions for sustainable development of the local economy and culture.

The Project to Preserve and Renovate the Center of the Dien Bien Phu Base Group is invested by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The project aims to recreate the Center of the French Army Base Group in Dien Bien Phu; promote the value, preserve more fully and completely the system of historical relics, vividly recreate the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield; renovate the green tree system to create landscape, meet the sightseeing needs of people and tourists; create conditions to exploit and promote the potential and strengths of tourism, especially historical tourism.

Members of the Scientific Council of the Project to Preserve and Restore the Center of Dien Bien Phu Citadel Group gave their opinions.

Implementation period from 2024-2026, with a total investment of 252 billion VND, the Project will implement specific contents such as: Investing in renovating and supplementing the General De Castries' Command Bunker area; preserving, renovating and restoring artillery positions and artillery bunkers, barracks, field hospitals, military medical bunkers; traffic system, traffic trench system, earthen bunkers and resistance nests, barbed wire fence system, various types of parachutes, systems of materials and equipment to create landscapes surrounding the General De Castries' Command Bunker area. Other auxiliary items (investing in the construction of reception areas, parking lots, public restrooms, electricity systems, water supply and drainage systems, fire prevention and fighting systems, etc.); preserving and restoring relic items currently on display outdoors; displaying and introducing additional relics, etc.

The Project Scientific Council was established under Decision No. 1647/QD-UBND dated September 6, 2024. At the meeting, members of the Scientific Council discussed and gave opinions focusing on the draft content: Decision to promulgate the operating regulations of the Project Scientific Council; Outline of tasks; Regulations on the selection of research plans to restore the project. The above opinions were compiled by the Secretariat assisting the Project Council, supplementing and perfecting the content of the drafts.
