Electronics giant Huawei is set to join BYD and Zeekr in the race by announcing it will introduce a super-fast charger on April 22. |
Unlike Zeekr and BYD, which focus on passenger cars, Huawei’s 1.5 MW super-fast charging system is aimed at heavy-duty trucks. “For heavy-duty trucks to fully switch to electric, the charging time must be less than 30 minutes,” Jinlong stressed. The move shows Huawei’s ambition to expand the commercial electric vehicle market.
On the same day, Zeekr announced that it will launch a 1.2 MW ultra-fast charging system in the second quarter of 2025. The company has upgraded its charging stations from 360 kW to 800 kW over the past three years and now operates 826 stations in China. Meanwhile, BYD made headlines earlier this month with a 1,000 kW fast charger that adds 2 km per second, or 400 km, in 5 minutes. Notably, BYD has integrated an energy storage system that ensures 1,000 kW of power even in areas with weak grids. The company plans to deploy 4,000 1 MW chargers, starting with 500 stations in April.
