In early May 2025, people in Minh Hoa commune were busy harvesting and transporting pineapples to purchasing points. While quickly cutting the yellow, sweet pineapples, Ms. Vy Thi Bich, Chua village, Minh Hoa commune, shared: My family has been growing pineapples since 2010, but this is the first year the pineapple crop has been a "big success". My family grows over 1 hectare of pineapples. Since the beginning of the harvest season, my family has harvested over 5 tons of fruit. Traders buy them at the garden at a price of 15,000 to 20,000 VND/fruit (depending on weight). It is expected that from now until the end of the season, my family will harvest another 5 tons of pineapples. From growing pineapples, my family is expected to earn nearly 120 million VND this year.
Not only people grow pineapples in Minh Hoa commune, these days, on the vast pineapple hillsides in Minh Son commune, farmers are also busy harvesting. Sitting to sort and select large, beautiful, plump pineapples, and put them in large baskets to transport for sale, Mr. Vi Van Sien, Ca Trong village, Minh Son commune, excitedly said: This season, my family planted more than 1 hectare of pineapples. This year's pineapple crop has high productivity, the pineapples are large and beautiful, each fruit weighs an average of 1.5 to 1.8 kg. This year, my family is expected to harvest more than 10 tons of pineapples, an increase of about 1.5 tons compared to last year. Not only is the harvest good, this year, pineapples are also purchased at high prices, ranging from 15,000 - 20,000 VND/fruit, an increase of 3,000 to 6,000 VND/fruit compared to last year. Pineapple harvest is good, price is good, pineapple farmers like me are very happy and have more confidence to continue to stick with and expand the growing area in the coming years.
Mr. Le Tien Dung, Vice Chairman of Minh Son Commune People's Committee, said: Pineapple is one of the crops that brings significant income to people in the commune. Currently, the whole commune has 26.5 hectares of pineapple with about 80 households growing it, mainly concentrated in the villages: Ca Trong, Ca Ngoai... The output of pineapple grown in the area is estimated at over 230 tons. This year, pineapple growers are enjoying the joy of a good harvest and good prices. Not only does the yield increase, the fruit is large and beautiful, pineapples are also purchased at high prices, ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 VND/fruit, an increase of 3,000 to 6,000 VND/fruit compared to last year. Right from the beginning of the harvest, many traders have come to cooperate and make deposit contracts to buy the entire pineapple garden.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Huu Lung district, the whole district currently has 73.46 hectares of pineapple, grown mainly in the communes of Minh Son, Minh Hoa, Hoa Thang... This year's pineapple crop, although the weather is not very favorable, pineapple growers have proactively applied technical measures in planting and caring for the crop, so the yield has increased and the quality of the fruit is guaranteed. Specifically, this year's pineapple crop, the pineapple yield is estimated at 90 quintals/ha (an increase of 6.35 quintals/ha compared to the 2024 pineapple crop), the output is estimated at 660 tons; the economic value is estimated at about 10 billion VND.
According to people's experience, pineapple is a very easy-to-grow plant, prefers shallow soil and does not require sophisticated, complicated care techniques. However, for pineapple plants to grow and develop healthily and yield high yields, growers need to pay attention and apply techniques to planting and caring for them. Accordingly, during the planting process, farmers need to pay attention to treating shoots before planting, cutting off dry leaves at the base and dipping 1/3 of the shoots (from the base) in a pesticide solution such as Pyrinex, Basudin... to prevent aphids and root-damaging nematodes, helping the plant to quickly take root; at the same time, when planting, it is necessary to ensure reasonable spacing, weeding, and fertilizing at the right time. In particular, pineapple growers should proactively apply technical measures to produce pineapple in batches to extend the harvest time, overcome the situation of good harvest but low price, contributing to increasing income.
Ms. Nong Thi Huyen Trang, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Huu Lung district, said: In order to improve the productivity and quality of pineapple, in recent years, the department has coordinated with the District Agricultural Service Center and the People's Committees of communes and towns to open training courses on planting and caring for fruit trees, including pineapple; instructing people on how to care for and apply science and technology in pineapple production in different seasons to increase economic efficiency. At the same time, the department also proactively coordinates with related units to propagate, mobilize and guide people to plant and care for pineapple in a safe way, using organic fertilizers. In the coming time, in addition to continuing to coordinate with related units to organize training courses to transfer science and technology to people, the department will advise the District People's Committee to implement projects to support people in developing pineapple cultivation according to VietGAP standards, thereby further improving the quality and value of products, better meeting market demand.
With high productivity and selling price, this year’s pineapple crop has become a “sweet” pineapple season for many pineapple growers in Huu Lung district. From growing pineapple, many households in the district have earned an income of 80 to 150 million VND/year. Hopefully, with the attention of authorities at all levels and the initiative of the people, the pineapple crop in the following years will continue to be successful, helping people increase their income.
