Taking place from April 21-25, 2025, the 3rd Phong Binh Commune Youth Football Tournament - 2025 is highly appreciated for its organization and professional quality. From the success of the previous 2 organizations, the tournament organizers have made many positive changes to create a better, more attractive tournament, meeting the competition needs of the players and the enjoyment of the people.
Mr. Tran Thao, Secretary of Phong Binh Commune Youth Union, Head of the tournament organizing committee said: “This year, the tournament has invested more in the organization, in which, paying attention to the communication stage when inviting the media channel "Xom Lang TV" to livestream, comment and promote the image of the tournament; sending invitations to agencies, businesses and individuals to sponsor the tournament and the football teams...
In particular, we have brought a breath of fresh air to the tournament by changing the regulations, introducing a new regulation that a football team can invite 2 good players from outside the locality to compete. The third season in 2025 has more than 140 players from 7 football teams in the commune participating, including 14 "foreign" players who have successfully competed in many amateur and grassroots football tournaments nationwide such as: Nguyen Viet Thang, Nguyen Kim Quang (Hieu Hoa-Quahaco FC, Da Nang City , champion of the 2023 National Cup 7-a-side Football Tournament, champion of the 2024 Wika Cup International 7-a-side Football Tournament) wearing the Xuan Tien team shirt; Pham Ngoc Chau (Friendship FC, Dong Ha City), Le Trung Thanh (Thend FC, Dong Ha City) wearing the Gia Mon team shirt...
The presence of “foreign players” has made the matches more attractive and raised the quality of the tournament. From this success, we will boldly innovate so that the following seasons will become an ideal destination for top competitions in the grassroots system, helping local people enjoy eye-catching matches.”
The sports economic sector is also of interest to many businesses and households in Gio Linh district, such as investing in artificial turf football fields, badminton, tennis, etc., meeting the needs of entertainment, recreation, training and competition for people. According to statistics, in the district, there are currently 3 businesses, 30 households operating sports activities, and 10 sports clubs maintaining effective operations.
Many media channels and fanpages with high interaction were established by Gio Linh district residents with the aim of spreading quality films, images, and articles about sports activities taking place in the district to sports lovers in the community. The socialization of sports has been well implemented, contributing more resources to develop the sports career of Gio Linh district.
In recent times, grassroots sports activities have always been of interest to district leaders, departments, branches, and mass organizations at the district and local levels. Specifically, the land planning for sports facilities has been highly effective, 100% of communes and towns have planned land for sports facilities; all communes and towns have volleyball, soccer, badminton courts, etc.; 100% of residential areas have volleyball courts.
According to Director of Gio Linh District Culture, Sports and Physical Training Center Nguyen Xuan Hoan, promoting sports activities at the grassroots level and strengthening the management of businesses and households involved in sports activities has always been of special interest to Gio Linh District. The proof is that people from all walks of life actively contribute money and labor to build and repair training grounds, and sponsor many grassroots sports tournaments.
Many businesses and individuals organize volleyball, badminton, and grassroots football tournaments to create useful playgrounds, contributing to the development of grassroots sports. Grassroots sports activities are organized in conjunction with holidays, festivals, and important events of industries, localities, and the country. In addition to modern sports, folk games and traditional sports such as boat racing, tug of war, stick pushing, swinging, and cuu festivals are organized annually, especially on holidays and Tet.
On average, every year, the district level organizes about 11 sports tournaments; at the commune and town level, about 35 sports tournaments; at the village level, about 80 sports tournaments and about 30 sports tournaments are organized by individuals and businesses. The mass sports movement is increasingly developing, the people's need for sports training is increasing, the forms of training are rich and diverse in many sports. The rate of people in the whole district participating in regular sports training has increased every year, up to now it is estimated to be over 43%, the rate of sports families is over 32%.
“The results achieved at the grassroots level are the foundation for developing the district-level sports movement from grassroots to high-performance; building Gio Linh district teams to compete and win many achievements in provincial-level tournaments.
Notably, in 2024, he won the second prize in the men's 60 kg pole push event, the third prize in the men's standing crossbow shooting event at the Provincial Ethnic Minority Sports Festival; won the second prize in the women's 1,000 m race, the third prize in the men's 2,000 m race, the second prize in the mixed 2,000 m event at the Traditional Boat Race "Unification Festival" of Quang Tri province; won the second prize in the women's event, the third prize in the men's event at the Quang Tri Provincial Volleyball Championship...
