Nam Can District proactively cares for Agent Orange victims

Ca Mau Newspaper On April 8, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) of Nam Can district held a conference to review 10 years of implementing Directive No. 43 of the Secretariat of the 11th Party Central Committee (2015-2025 period) on strengthening the Party's leadership in dealing with the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam.

Over the past 10 years, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nam Can district has regularly coordinated with the mass mobilization bloc and the Fatherland Front to proactively advise the District Party Committee and the District People's Committee on solutions to implement Directive 43 dated May 14, 2015 of the Secretariat of the 11th Party Central Committee in the locality. As a result, the District Association has issued more than 30 plans, official dispatches, and work programs mentioning the implementation of Directive 43 and the inspection of the implementation of the Directive; 605 meetings were held to disseminate the implementation of Directive 43 with 12,140 participants.

Currently, the whole district has more than 990 people infected with toxic chemicals (CĐHH), of which 155 victims are enjoying preferential policies. From 2015 to now, the association has mobilized money and material converted into money of more than 10 billion 767 million VND, accordingly, it has organized meetings, visited, encouraged, supported 19,300 gifts, built 46 charity houses, "Agent Orange shelters", of which 36 were newly built, 11 were repaired; helped 4,000 victims and their families in difficult circumstances to integrate into community life.

The District People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 2 collectives and 5 individuals with outstanding achievements in the work of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in 2024.

Mr. Dang Van My, Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Ca Mau province, highly appreciated the achievements of Nam Can district in the past time. At the same time, he requested the District Association to continue to implement specific contents such as: coordinating to advise, propose leaders, direct the implementation of Directive 43, widely and regularly propagate to party members, union members, and members of mass organizations; advising on the effective implementation of the Party and State's policies for people with meritorious services and people infected with AO/Dioxin in the locality; Doing a good job of reviewing and updating changes in victims and regularly coordinating with relevant agencies to actively mobilize organizations and individuals to support and help victims. Actively mobilize victims' funds according to plan, launch the emulation movement "For Agent Orange victims". Strengthen and improve the organization of the association in terms of quantity and quality to ensure the implementation of tasks in the new situation.

On the occasion of the Founding Day of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin; Day for Agent Orange Victims and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the Provincial Association presented a charity house worth 60 million VND and 8 gifts to victims in difficult circumstances in the district.
