In addition to the International Volleyball Federation Regional Association Presidents, Continental Federation Directors were also invited to attend as observers along with members of the Volleyball Development and Empowerment Committee.
International Volleyball Federation Aims for New Ranking System
Attendees heard from a number of IVL departments, including Empowerment & National Federation Relations, Volleyball, Information Technology, Innovation and Legal. The focus of the discussions was IVL’s Strategic Vision 2032 – an ambitious, forward-looking roadmap designed to enhance the sport ’s global presence over the next eight years.
The 2032 strategic vision is built on four foundational pillars: professionalism, inclusion, empowerment and public participation. These core values aim to increase the accessibility and impact of the sport by uniting people, inspiring positive social change and paving the way for a brighter future for Volleyball around the world .
The highlight of the conference was the discussion of the expanded IVL world ranking system. In April, the IVL Council approved a proposal to expand the ranking framework and strengthen the role of the Continental Confederations and Regional Associations. Under the new system, each Regional Association will be able to include one annual event and the Continental Confederation will be able to include two events in the world rankings.
Qualifying competitions must include a minimum of four national teams. This update reinforces the importance of regional competitions and increases opportunities for national teams to gain international recognition. The International Volleyball Federation world ranking system remains a dynamic and reliable measure of a team’s technical performance and development trajectory.
“Our mission is to empower every level of the global Volleyball movement, from the grassroots to the top. Regional Associations play a vital role in ensuring that happens, connecting communities, helping to develop talent and moving Volleyball forward at the regional level. The conference is a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen our collaboration and ensure a strong global Volleyball ecosystem. By including Regional Association events in the International Volleyball Federation World Rankings, we are taking a significant step towards further professionalizing our sport and we are excited to move forward together,” said International Volleyball Federation President Fabio Azevedo.
