Known as a smartphone with significantly better battery life than Android models, the iPhone still has a significant disadvantage. That is, the charging speed is considered slow, whether we charge the iPhone with a wired or wireless charger.
So far, only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are capable of charging at a maximum power of 27W, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus can only reach 20W.
And according to an anonymous source at 9to5Mac, Apple is trying to address this biggest competitive disadvantage with "at least some new iPhone 15 models being able to charge at up to 35W.
Mid-range Android smartphones are still capable of charging much faster than the most expensive iPhones.
Given Apple's history of locking down upgrades in its expensive Pro models early on, it's not hard to speculate that this fast charging feature will be available on the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and its Pro Max sibling.
Along with faster charging, the upcoming iPhones are rumored to use the USB-C standard, and the Pro and Pro Max models could even support Thunderbolt perks.
Specifically, ThunderBolt is a high-speed connection standard developed by Intel and first appeared on the 2011 MacBook Pro.
In the simplest terms, with ThunderBolt, Apple devices can both fast charge and connect to other devices, transmit data in both directions at the same time, using bandwidth up to 80Gbps.
Thunderbolt 5 connection standard can reach speeds of 80Gbps.
Nothing compared to Android smartphones?
Although it's a bit late, the rumor that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be getting a 35W charger is a step in the right direction for Apple. However, the iPhone still has a long way to go to catch up with Android rivals in this area.
For example, the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro was just launched in China. The smartphone costs about $410, which is half the price of the iPhone 14, but supports 150W fast charging.
Other Chinese smartphone makers, such as Xiaomi, now support charging speeds of up to 120W on budget smartphones priced as low as $250.
The only Android smartphone maker that’s “at the back of the pack” with Apple is Google, with its Pixel phones. But it’s worth noting that they’re selling for hundreds of dollars less than the iPhone.
The iPhone 14 is rumored to use Titanium, a material that is lighter and more durable than stainless steel or aluminum. Camera upgrades are also said to be in the works, along with a 3nm chip. Apple may also remove the mute switch and replace it with a touch button, but that's not certain.
All of this makes the rumor that the four iPhone 15 models will increase in price more certain.
Apple is expected to introduce a new iPhone lineup at an event in the second week of September, along with changes to the iPad, new Apple Watch models, and possibly some Mac computers.
OnePlus Ace 2 Pro 2 is capable of charging at a maximum power of 150W.
