Some social media users recently reported that the color coating on the iPhone 17 Pro Max showed signs of peeling after cleaning with a wet towel. The information was recorded on IT Home on November 16, after account X named @Rui35052730 posted a post sharing his experience.

The person said that the iPhone 17 Pro Max in Starry Orange lost a large area of coating after wiping it with a regular wet wipe. The account also attached 3 images showing a large area of smear on the back of the device, the orange part seems to be wiped off, revealing the aluminum alloy layer underneath.

The post attracted attention in the iPhone user community, as many users questioned whether it was a manufacturing defect or the impact of cleaning the device.

According to the technology site Wccftech , there have been no similar cases recorded on major forums such as Reddit. In addition, the technology world has not recorded any reports confirming that the coating of the latest iPhone model is easily peeled off when exposed to wet towels.

Therefore, the above incident is considered an isolated case, likely related to the type of towel the user used, rather than a common error of the iPhone 17 Pro Max line.

The cause could also be from the chemicals in the cleaning cloth. If the user accidentally uses a cloth containing peroxide or alcohol, the orange coating on the iPhone 17 Pro may be affected and peel off. This is in line with Apple's warning to customers when cleaning the device.

For many years, the US tech giant has advised users not to use strong detergents or products containing corrosive chemicals to clean their iPhones. According to the iPhone manufacturer, these substances can fade the paint, affect the protective coating or cause changes to the surface material.

On its support page, Apple also regularly reminds users to only use a soft, damp cloth and avoid exposing the device to solutions containing high concentrations of alcohol. Apple has not yet responded to the case mentioned on social networks.
