Three teams Jordan, South Korea and Uzbekistan have officially won tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, marking special milestones in the journey of Asian football. While South Korea extends its record with its 11th consecutive participation, Uzbekistan and Jordan are participating in the biggest football festival on the planet for the first time in history.
The Asian region has identified 5 teams that have won tickets to the 2026 World Cup, including Iran, Uzbekistan (Group A), South Korea, Jordan (Group B) and Japan (Group C).
History of Uzbekistan
In Group A, Uzbekistan wrote a new page in history when they held the UAE to a 0-0 draw in Abu Dhabi. This result was enough for the Central Asian team to take second place in the group behind Iran, thereby securing a direct ticket to the US in the summer of 2026, although there is still one match left to play.
The historic draw left the team and fans in jubilation. Goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov was hailed as the hero of the match with a series of excellent saves, helping Uzbekistan keep a clean sheet in the decisive moment.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan lost hope of progressing after a 2-2 draw with North Korea.
Miracle for Jordan, South Korea impresses
In Group B, South Korea had a convincing 2-0 victory over Iraq away from home to qualify for the World Cup for the 11th consecutive time - one of the most impressive streaks in Asian football.
Iraq striker Ali Al-Hamadi (Ipswich Town) was sent off in the first half for a dangerous high kick that turned the game around. The advantage of having more players helped South Korea dominate the second half. Goals from Kim Jin-Gyu and Oh Hyeon-Gyu gave the Korean team a 2-0 victory and a convincing return to the World Cup.
Also in Group B, Jordan made history by defeating Oman 3-0 to officially qualify for the World Cup for the first time in history. All three goals of Jordan belonged to striker Ali Olwan, a performance that could not have been more perfect in the decisive match.
Meanwhile, Palestine still have a chance to qualify after a 2-0 victory over Kuwait.
Australia creates earthquake , China is eliminated
In Group C, Australia created a shock when they defeated Japan 1-0 thanks to a late goal from defender Aziz Behich at home in Perth. In the 90th minute, from Riley McGree's sprint on the right wing, the ball was crossed for Behich to make a beautiful curling shot, exploding the stadium and bringing Australia's first victory over Japan in 16 years.
With this result, Australia only needs to not lose to Saudi Arabia by a margin of 5 goals or more in the final round to officially win the ticket.
Meanwhile, China were eliminated after a 1-0 defeat to Indonesia in Jakarta. The only goal of the match was scored from the penalty spot by Ole Romeny late in the first half, ending China's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup for the second time since 2002.
Under the guidance of coach Patrick Kluivert, the Indonesian team played resiliently and successfully defended their fragile advantage, giving fans a historic victory and opening up hope for the final qualifying round.
