Việt NamViệt Nam21/07/2024

The first direct train from Bangkok to Vientiane is one of the cooperation projects between Laos and Thailand to promote trade, investment, tourism , and infrastructure connectivity.

After about 12 hours of travel and exit procedures at Nong Khai station, the first 500 passengers arrived in Vientiane, starting their journey to explore the capital of Laos or continuing on the Laos-China high-speed train to other famous tourist destinations in the "country of a million elephants" or China.

"Most of the time we slept on the train, it was very convenient, just like spending a night in a hotel," said British tourist Barrow Richard Corri.

Watchara Pechdin (Thai tourist) happily said: "I feel that Laos and Thailand are very close to each other, I can go from Thailand to Luangprabang, and it will also be easier to go to the capital Vientiane."

Train tickets from Bangkok to Vientiane currently have 4 price levels: the lowest one-way ticket price for the entire route is about 196,000 VND and the highest is about 610,000 VND. Passengers can buy tickets online or at the stations or book 180 days in advance at any station on this route.

Mr. Daochinda Sihalath - General Director of Lao National Railway Company - emphasized: "International tourists coming to Laos will promote national economic development, both directly and indirectly. Directly is the spending of tourists when in Laos, indirectly is promoting the development of other sectors such as tourism, investment, agriculture - industry".

The first train connecting Laos and Thailand also marks the expansion of Thailand's existing Bangkok-Nong Khai railway line, thereby facilitating tourists and people from both countries to choose to travel directly between the two capitals; at the same time contributing to promoting transport infrastructure connectivity between Thailand, Laos and China.
