According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Southern Europe, attending the seminar organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece in coordination with the Greek company WorkInGreece on December 11th, were more than 130 representatives from Greek companies and businesses needing labor in the fields of restaurants, hotels, factories, agriculture , employers, law firms, universities, and Greek press and media agencies. On the Vietnamese side were 12 labor supply companies, businesses with experience in supplying Vietnamese labor to foreign markets, including the Greek market.
In her opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong emphasized that, taking place in the context of the two countries celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations, the organization of the seminar demonstrates the determination and efforts of the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece to bring labor cooperation, a field with great potential but not yet adequately exploited, into a substantive and effective manner, thereby contributing to promoting economic cooperation between the two countries. In June 2025, at a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations Ocean Conference between the Prime Ministers of the two countries, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed with the proposal of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to be ready to accept highly skilled Vietnamese workers.
In her speech, Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong also introduced Vietnam's socio-economic development goals until 2030, with a vision to 2045, and the direction of workforce development, especially of highly skilled technical workers, to meet the country's development requirements in the new situation. She also highlighted the Vietnamese government's policy of promoting the sending of Vietnamese workers abroad, including to the European market in general and Greece in particular.
According to statistics from the Department of Overseas Labor Management, Ministry of Interior, in recent years, Vietnam has sent nearly 160,000 workers abroad each year. Currently, there are approximately 800,000 Vietnamese workers employed in 40 countries and territories, across more than 30 different occupational sectors.
The European regional market has always been considered a key market with a high demand for foreign workers. In Greece alone, approximately 1,300 Vietnamese workers have been employed there since the end of 2023. To facilitate cooperation between the two countries in this area, relevant authorities are currently negotiating and promoting the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two governments regarding labor supply.
This is the first time the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece has collaborated with Greek partners to organize a workshop on this field. The aim is to help businesses gain a deeper understanding of the labor supply market, policies, and practices in Greece and Vietnam, while also connecting businesses seeking foreign workers, Greek labor service companies, and Vietnamese labor supply companies.
As part of the event, from December 12-15, the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece organized activities to connect Vietnamese businesses with Greek partners in Athens and Thessaloniki.
