
According to the agreed plan, the 5th round of direct negotiations on the Reciprocal Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the United States was held from November 12-14 in Washington DC, USA.
The Vietnamese negotiating delegation was led by Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government Negotiating Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien, with the participation of members of the negotiating delegation and representatives of the following ministries and sectors: Public Security, Foreign Affairs , Finance, Home Affairs, Agriculture and Environment, Science and Technology, Justice and the State Bank.
During the three days of negotiations, the Vietnamese and US negotiating delegations made great progress on many issues such as services, digital trade, agriculture , technical barriers to trade (TBT), food safety and hygiene standards (SPS)... and narrowed the gap on the remaining issues.

At the meeting summarizing the negotiation session, the Representative of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and the Representative of the Vietnamese Negotiation Delegation both said that the negotiation session had very positive results, creating a favorable basis for the early completion of the Vietnam - US Reciprocal Trade Agreement.
The United States highly appreciated the goodwill, efforts and creative approach of the Vietnamese Negotiation Delegation, especially the results of the direct negotiation session between Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and Chief US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held right before the official technical negotiation session. Based on Vietnam's requests, the United States had initial positive responses and said that it could consider handling based on the overall negotiation results.

The two sides also agreed on the work to be carried out after the negotiation session and agreed to hold a number of online meetings in the coming days to continue discussing outstanding issues as well as prepare for the online ministerial-level negotiation between Chief Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, scheduled to take place in November 2025.
In addition to the negotiation activities, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had working sessions with the US Deputy Secretary of State, Congressman, Chairman of the House Taxation Committee and met with leaders of technology and semiconductor corporations and the US Apparel and Footwear Association to promote bilateral economic, investment and trade cooperation activities as well as advocate for Vietnam's reciprocal trade negotiation process./.
