Overcoming the shortage of irrigation water for nearly 129 hectares of rice in Binh Xuyen commune (Binh Giang)

As water pollution and saltwater intrusion have reduced, the pumping station in Binh Xuyen commune has been put into operation to promptly supply water to rice fields lacking irrigation water (photo taken on the afternoon of March 28).

On the afternoon of March 28, a representative of the Binh Giang District Irrigation Works Exploitation Enterprise said that because the river water source of the Bac Hung Hai irrigation system has been less polluted and saltwater intrusion has decreased, since the morning of the same day, the pumping station in Binh Xuyen commune has been operated to take water from the Hoa Loan - Nhu canal to overcome the shortage of irrigation water for nearly 129 hectares of rice in the commune.

Previously, due to low water levels in the Bac Hung Hai irrigation system, saline intrusion downstream combined with long periods of no rain, the water level of the Hoa Loan - Nhu canal dropped. The Cau Bang pumping station irrigating 106.7 hectares and the Cong Trang pumping station irrigating 22 hectares in Binh Xuyen commune could not take water from the Hoa Loan - Nhu canal to irrigate the winter-spring rice crop since March 20, causing many rice fields to dry out and crack.

Previously, due to low water levels in the Bac Hung Hai irrigation system, saline intrusion downstream, and the inability to pump water, many rice fields in Binh Xuyen commune were dry and cracked (photo provided by the facility).
