The number of international visitors to Vietnam in January 2024 reached over 1.5 million, an increase of 10.3% compared to December 2023 and an increase of 73.6% compared to the same period in 2023.
International visitors to Vietnam in January 2024 reached a record high.
This figure is the highest since Vietnam reopened tourism from March 2022, equivalent to the number of international visitors to Vietnam in January 2019 - the time before the Covid-19 pandemic.
On the afternoon of January 29, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in the first month of 2024, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached a record high, equal to the time before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Notably, by means of arrival, the number of visitors arriving by air reached 1.29 million, up 10.2% over the same period in 2019; the number of visitors arriving by sea reached 48.3 thousand, double that of the same period in 2019. However, the number of visitors arriving by road only reached 60% compared to the same period in 2019.
Currently, South Korea continues to be the largest market sending visitors with 418 thousand arrivals (accounting for 27.6%). China ranks second, reaching 242 thousand arrivals, Taiwan (China) ranks third with 84 thousand arrivals, and the US ranks fourth with 76 thousand arrivals.
In the following positions, the Australian market rose to 5th place with 62 thousand arrivals, Japan ranked 6th with 61 thousand arrivals, Malaysia ranked 7th with 49 thousand arrivals, India rose to 8th place (46 thousand arrivals), Thailand ranked 9th (41 thousand arrivals) and Cambodia ranked 10th (37 thousand arrivals).
In the European market, countries with a large number of visitors to Vietnam include: UK (294 thousand arrivals), France (241 thousand arrivals), Germany (228 thousand arrivals) and Russia (196 thousand arrivals).
According to general assessment, besides the Asian market still maintaining a steady growth rate, in the first month of 2024, very good growth was recorded from European markets after enjoying unilateral visa exemption policies such as: UK (up 37.4%), France (up 18.6%), Germany (up 25.0%), Italy (up 62.9%), Russia (up 41.2%)... This growth shows the clear effectiveness of the policy of increasing the length of stay from 15 days to 45 days for 13 countries with unilateral visa exemption.
Thus, it can be seen that from the beginning of 2024, Vietnam tourism has received good news when welcoming 1.5 million international visitors. This is a great motivation for Vietnam tourism to be able to achieve the goal of welcoming 17-18 million international visitors in 2024, equal to the time in 2019 (before the Covid-19 pandemic).
