Attending the incense offering ceremony on the opening day of the festival were comrade Dinh Van Tien, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Secretary of Hoa Lu City Party Committee; leaders of a number of provincial departments and branches; Xuan Truong Enterprise; Ninh Hai commune and a large number of people and tourists from all over.
Historical records say that in 1258, after winning the first resistance war against the Yuan-Mongol invaders, King Tran Thai Tong abdicated the throne to his son, Crown Prince Tran Thanh Tong, and became the Supreme Emperor.
After that, he returned to Truong Yen mountain to practice, starting the construction of Vu Lam palace. He established a hermitage called Thai Vi Tu, recruited displaced people to reclaim land, establish villages, expand roads, and renovate important places to prepare for when war of invasion broke out.
Many important meetings of the Royal Court chaired by the retired Emperor Tran Thai Tong were held here.
During the second resistance war against the Yuan-Mongol army, this place became a solid base for the army and people of the Tran Dynasty. From May 3, 1285, King Tran Thanh Tong and his successor Tran Nhan Tong set out, defeated an important Yuan-Mongol army in Truong Yen district, opened the counterattack and quickly swept the Yuan-Mongol army out of Dai Viet's territory.
After the glorious victory against the Yuan-Mongol army for the third time, on the 15th day of the third lunar month in 1288, King Tran Nhan Tong and the Tran Dynasty gathered at Thai Vi Temple to hold a grand ceremony, report their achievements to the previous emperor and celebrate the victory.
Since then, the 15th day of the third lunar month every year has become the traditional festival day of Thai Vi Temple in Ninh Hai Commune, Hoa Lu District in the past, now Hoa Lu City. This is an occasion for local people to remember, express their respect and deep gratitude for the great contributions of the Tran Dynasty Kings.
The festival consists of two parts: the ceremony and the festival. The ceremony includes the following ceremonies: Temple opening, incense offering, palanquin procession, traditional sacrifices and thanksgiving. The festival includes many attractive folk games that attract a large number of visitors to attend and cheer.
Organizing the Thai Vi Temple Festival is also an opportunity to introduce and promote historical and cultural values and famous landscapes, thereby contributing to promoting tourism development of Hoa Lu city in particular and Ninh Binh province in general.
